"I'm better than you because I own/earn more". Splinter pretty much nailed the crass American stereotype right there.

I think she meant it is french and Dutch (both genders) who are fair game, then all western women on top of that.Joon wrote:French, Dutch and Western women are also apparently tacitly "fair game."Cambodian wrote:Our respective posts must have crossed.youngwill100 wrote: I'm Australian and they tend to be characterised as loud, ignorant and boorish but I don't think I fit that profile. Or maybe I do but don't realise it.
The TOS suggest that Äustralians are "fair game" in k440.
Since I have never been to Bali and I do stay away from certain places in Phuket, my encounters with Australians have left me with a fairly good impression.

You are ignorant. AAVE is a dialect. One of the rules in AAVE is that double negatives are perfectly acceptable. For you to say that people who capably speak their own dialect are "retarded", is pathetic and definitely has some racist/classist undertones. It is no different than British English, Australian English, etc. but people love to hate on it because it is a dialect typically spoken by members of a lower socio-economic class.vladimir wrote:It has nothing whatsoever to do with race.kheng.info wrote:Ah so speakers of Spanish, Polish, Greek, etc. are all retarded? Oh wait, you probably mean that all black people who speak AAVE are retarded, eh?vladimir wrote:You may use it, but like the double negative, it's designed by retards for retards.
Why do you think it is called 'English' and not 'hillbilly jargon' or 'Murrikan'?
African-American vernacular is not correct usage, hence the moniker 'vernacular'. I doubt any self-respecting African-American would claim he/she was speaking correct English when using the double negative.

You don't hate 'on' something, you hate 'something'.
1. It should be: different 'to'.
2. Really? No different to UK English than Australian English?
You moron.
SA English, NZ English and AUS English all have three things in common:
1. Spelling: jewellery instead of jewelry, tyre instead of tire, they follow the UK English spelling, not US.
2. Grammar: at the back of, not in back of, correct usage of negatives, no double negatives, numerous other examples
3. Similar vocabulary, i.e. 'lift' instead of 'elevator', , 'flat' instead of 'apartment', etc.
One more thing, retard, wtf is a boo-ey? It's a buoy, pronounced ' boy'.
Within every native English-speaking country, you have educated and not-so educated people. Deal with it. The educated speak the correct language, and the others...well, you know. It's acceptable within that group, it's not acceptable anywhere else.
Do you hear Barack Obama or another educated African Americans saying "I ain't got none"? No. Why? Are they racists? No. They learned to speak the language correctly. Why did they do that? Because they want to speak it properly.
Millions of white people in the South also speak crap English, am I a racist for correcting them or seeing their mistakes? Or does it only apply to blacks? Wouldn't that be racism, albeit black on white?
You speak retard all you like, please just don't call it 'proper'/'correct' English.
If it were correct/proper English they wouldn't need to name it a dialect/AAVE, would they?
I not don't not have no clue what you're not saying not.

Alright, cut it out on the name calling, including "retard" and "ignorant." That's becoming very silly.
For what it's worth, African-American Vernacular English sounds to me a lot like Cockney English: part of a local identity but not the linguistic, official norms.

considering that my lovely wife is French/Dutch and a sexy specimen of the Western female variety, I thought she was very much fair game when my eyes met hers in downtown Laos.French, Dutch and Western women are also apparently tacitly "fair game."

What are you talking about? I did not type 'boo-ey', or 'bouy', or anything even resembling those.vladimir wrote:One more thing, retard, wtf is a boo-ey? It's a buoy, pronounced ' boy'.kheng.info wrote:It is no different than British English, Australian English, etc.
The position you're taking is prescriptive. You should know that prescriptivism has been completely rejected by linguists for a long time now.
"hate on", "different than", etc. are standard usage. According to the COCA corpus, "different than" is actually more common than "different to" by a factor of 10.

I apologise, you're not a Moron, you're a Mormon. Although...
Yeah, no way some religious (American, note) organisation (considered by many to be a cult) could be wrong. Or have some agenda.
Ever.

Noted. But I have to say that my single use of the word "ignorant" pales in comparison to the tone that vladimir is taking in this thread.Joon wrote:Alright, cut it out on the name calling, including "retard" and "ignorant." That's becoming very silly.
