If the TEFL Jobbers get the same holidays as the normal schools then they have little cause to complain about their pay/lot due to the fact that they hardly ever need to work for their salary.
Lets look at the current two week period starting last Friday, ending next Sunday.
1 days school, 2 days off, 2 days school, 1 day off, 2 days school, 2 days off, 1 days school, 3 days off, 1 days school, 2 days off.
I enrolled my daughter in a good school to get some work time. By the end of next week, she will have been there 4 weeks. In that time she will have only had 14 days at school. The sorry thing is I pay by the month, not the days at school.
Constant School Holidays!
Not many schools actually pay round eyes though for the holidays.LaudJohn wrote:If the TEFL Jobbers get the same holidays as the normal schools then they have little cause to complain about their pay/lot due to the fact that they hardly ever need to work for their salary.

Mine goes to a good school as well which cost some serious money and since we pay by month as well I feel as cheated as you. She has not been there a lot and they only inform parents a day in advance so we have to keep track of the Khmer calender well. If you want time off for work, better invest in a nanny. My wife won't let me get one

Jesus, how long have you been here?LaudJohn wrote:If the TEFL Jobbers get the same holidays as the normal schools then they have little cause to complain about their pay/lot due to the fact that they hardly ever need to work for their salary.
TEFL jobbers seldom get salaries, they dislike holidays more than you do.
Unpaid term breaks, unpaid national holidays, no medical insurance, crappy hourly pay, having to arse-creep students in many cases.
How much exactly are you paying a month/term?
I actually sat down and worked this out once, Cambodian students don't get much more time off than schools in my country.
1st/2nd/3rd terms: 3 months
1 month holiday in between
= 270 school days/year (SA), less 14 national holidays which occasionally fall within a term, Easter, for example
Cambodians also go to school on Saturdays
The university year is also pretty much the same, SA = 32 weeks.

I'm just glad I'm on salary! Bring on the holidays!

As kiiniaew mentions I don't understand why I cannot be informed in advance about holiday dates, I can make a stab at it by looking at national holidays but it's the additional days either side which often seem excessive

You should already know that whatever the matter you are lucky to get informed the day before. Very morning is the rule.newtonabbot wrote:As kiiniaew mentions I don't understand why I cannot be informed in advance about holiday dates, I can make a stab at it by looking at national holidays but it's the additional days either side which often seem excessive

I despise public holidays with every ounce of my being and it's already sent me searching for another school with a higher hourly or more hours.
