Questions to the Education Ministry
Questions to the Education Ministry
If you could ask the Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports a question (an open-ended question, not a "yes" or "no" question) what would it be?

Not a question - a statement. 'Don't let anything deflect you from your purpose'.

Good article, I greatly admire the minister and the strides forward he has made. I know people who deal with him and they have said he's a very humble and nice guy all around.

What to do then, Andy? If they are seriously interested in making substantial steps forward they'll see that countries as impoverished as Tanzania and Burma have invested in help on the ground from the likes of the British Council and its staff but, as salaries are central to the matter of cheating, are they seriously willing to raise the dough for Cambodian teachers at the same time?andyinasia wrote:Not a question - a statement. I imagine his strides will eventually be checked after he's upset too many pigs at the trough....Lucky Lucan wrote:Good article, I greatly admire the minister and the strides forward he has made. I know people who deal with him and they have said he's a very humble and nice guy all around.

We'll have to wait and see, so far he seems to be getting backed up from above. It's not exactly the biggest trough around either.

The Minister for Ed is serious. He's serious about raising salaries, but that will eat the entire budget increase and leave little for other reforms. I'm hoping that further teacher salary increases will be tied to performance in terms of attending INSET courses. When it comes to reforms of the actual quality of teaching and learning, he is also serious about that, but of course there is no budget for it. Foreign assistance is welcome so long as the foreigner pays, so approaches are being made to UNICEF and other bodies.erictheking wrote: What to do then, Andy? In short, he'll be backed to do whatever doesn't cost too much and what does cost has to be funded from outside as always. Central Govt talk the talk but the budgetary prioritising says more than their bluster. Nevertheless, this is more than a baby-step in the right direction; it as, as the article title says, a turning point.

I'd agree with those who praise the Education Minister. A lovely man, who seems to be on the right path, at last.
