To think my reply to that post was intended as a harmless wind-up
I came, I argued, I'm out

Apart from education degrees, a TEFL or CELTA is way more relevant than a degree to teaching.pdotty wrote:its even excusable when they lie, as there is really zilch need to have a university degree to work as an English teacher here.
I have a degree in English literature, which, one could argue, is relevant, but I would say the vast majority of teachers in Cambodia have completely unrelated degrees to the subjects they are teaching.
Many employers want a degree because it signals some kind of self-discipline, not because you need it to do the job.
I disagree completely with you saying it's excusable.
If they lie about qualifications, what about a criminal record?

I showed my current employer a recent basic UK D.B.S check and whilst they were pleased to see it they had no policies or procedures to deal with this type of information!vladimir wrote:pdotty wrote:its even excusable when they lie, as there is really zilch need to have a university degree to work as an English teacher here.

He posted that about a month before your latest pissing contest, so he may be striking a different tone these days.vladimir wrote:Does anyone know a good optician? It sounds like some schools require a degree and/or a TEFL/CELTA certificate while others don't. Would the salary be different as well?
MekongMouse, may I ask what your job is?
I would prefer to tell the truth rather than use a fake degree and certificate. Teaching English seems like the easiest job to get but I am interested in other job as well. What should I do?
