The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly About Teaching in Cambodia
I'd like to hear it. The good side, the bad side, and the ugly side ... In particular, funny/odd/weird/sad stories with teaching ...
I'd particularly like to hear the good as well, the rewards, classes with benefits, the people you met, etc. But moan all you want, that's the experience here, too. Just want to balance it with other places that might have the same problems in teaching there, too.
Also, the future of teachers and teaching in Cambodia. Many thanks for this late night request.

There is a thread somewhere about loony expat teachers getting sacked, with some good anecdotes from long-term ers like vlad. I'd dig it out for you if I had the time, but I'm in a hurry!

For PT, it's not good:
1. Not enough hours
2. Crappy rate at most places, around $10/hour
3. Cambodia has around 30 official holidays, plus holidays taken before and after same, unpaid
4. Then you also have unpaid term breaks
5. No visa/WP or other subsidy
6. Students are there to be entertained, don't make the mistake of asking them to work
7. Admin.Admin.Admin.Admin.Admin.Grrr...
Then you have the bad points...

Obviously the slump in the Aussie dollar has meant he has had to sell his chandeliers.

I have it on good authority that Telesales has been offloading one or two of his bikes and a car recently on one of the Facebook sites or CPN or something. Times must be tough in the modelling business.

That's right, I had 7 bikes, Sherlock, and 1 car. Never used the car, maybe once every season. Waste of storage and time, stuck in PP traffic all the time.scobienz wrote:I have it on good authority that Telesales has been offloading one or two of his bikes and a car recently on one of the Facebook sites or CPN or something. No storage space, be sensible ...

How can we move up the ladder? do we have to have connections or just work hard and hopefully somebody will throw us a bone? this question goes to the very successful expats like Vlad, Scobienz, Playboy and perhaps Andy. Maybe more I don't know which of you is highly successful
