ACE is still owned by IDP Australia.andyinasia wrote:I'm just giving the facts; ACE are my rivals in a sense so I won't make any personal observations. One point, however, is that these days the Australian government has minimal-to-no input into the running of the place - the management is now Khmer AFAIK.

Without wishing to appear quarrelsome I'd be interested in hearing your views on this. Many moons ago I used to work for ACE as a teacher in PP and have since had opportunities to return. However, I didn't feel it was the right move for me at this stage in my career.springrain wrote:I don't think it's half as good as they make out.
That said, I respect them for having standards, which many places don't have, and I think they do a very good job in Cambodia.

The Khmer teachers have all studied degrees in Teaching English as a Foreign Language at IFL. Many have or are studying for a Masters. They also need a high IELTS score to teach at ACE. Their spoken English is fluent and their grasp of grammar is excellent. The Khmer teachers are top notch: smart, dedicated and professional.

As for management: The institution is Australian. The Country Director is Khmer. The Principal is Australian. Lead Teachers and Campus Managers are a mix of Khmer and Western.

It sure is. It might well be that the principal is, too.Bluetonguedskink wrote: The Principle is Australian.

Is it true they don't pay salaried staff for the month long break over Christmas?Bluetonguedskink wrote:Actually it was that frickin spell check. Mind of its own
Most of the expat teachers don't get paid for term breaks and public holidays unless they are on a contract, which very few are. The school closes for the long holiday in December when most contracts end so no one gets paid for that.

Even if they paid half a salary during this month their package would look much better to teachers outside of Cambodia. To effectively be jobless and without pay over the Christmas break for those continuing to work with them is ridiculous.

If that's true, then that's complete bullshit. At the risk of sounding like Vlad, foreign teachers in Cambodia should have some sort of collective that contests such an situation; at least in the non-angry birds type schools.xxx wrote:Most of the expat teachers don't get paid for term breaks and public holidays unless they are on a contract, which very few are.
