Yeah, somebody actually saying thank you.
Apartments, jobs
People generally never say thank you.
They are way too busy twisting the knife
Which is why I'll be happy to leave

Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame.

I'm glad this topic came up.andyinasia wrote:Don't get a tourist visa. Start with the ordinary/business visa.
One of things I have been reading recently online is that in order to be issued a Business Visa you need to produce a “business letter” from an employer or sponsoring company. I believe someone may have posted something similar to that effect several months ago.
As I am retired I do not plan on working in Cambodia.
Am I left with no choice but to get the Tourist visa as I cannot produce a “Business Letter”?
Also I thought you needed a Ordinary/Business Visa and a Bank Account to rent an apartment or house; is that correct?
After physical rehabilitation, I was literally going to hop on a plane and head for Phnom Penh with a Tourist Visa because of this "Business Letter" requirement for the Ordinary/Business Visa. Am I misinformed?
The original plan was to get a multiple entry Ordinary/Business Visa and then have it extended at Lucky.
Then set up a bank account, find housing, etc.
but the “Business Letter” requirement has thrown me off course.
Could someone clarify things and recommend a course of action.
“Business Letter
Letter from employer or sponsoring company, on company letterhead, introducing the applicant, indicating the applicant's employment status/position held in the company, and clearly stating the purpose of visit to Cambodia. The business letter must also indicate who will be financially responsible for the applicant and must provide detailed contact information in Cambodia.”

Thanks G&T, but it does seem to be a very recent issue.Gin&Tonic wrote:I've never heard of anyone having any issues getting the ordinary/business/"e" class visa without any paperwork.
As I mentioned, I believe a newcomer posted about the same issue and scobienz recommended that she simply first just arrive on the tourist visa in order to check out Cambodia before making any long-term commitments.
Nonetheless, the issue was the she too was told by the embassy in her respective country that she needed the letter. Sorry I can't recall her nationality.
Why not write your own "business letter" with generic details from a random medium sized company or school with an online presence. If they do actually ask for it, it's not like they're going to call and check.agincourt wrote:I'm glad this topic came up.andyinasia wrote:Don't get a tourist visa. Also, none of those low rent schools care about degrees, criminal records, overtime, students, your concerns, etc.

Yes it was a Cambodian Embassy.
However what you're saying makes sense.
I think the websites I was perusing were all charging fees
to create "business letters" which may not actually be required.
I will follow the course of action you suggested.
Thanks G&T.

I will stop pressing the issue but I'm pretty sure there seems to be a requirement for a letter:

"Letter from applicant's company (on company letterhead and signed by someone other than the applicant) addressed to the Cambodia Embassy similar in content to the following sample letter....:
But I will follow G&T and epidemiks recommendations.
Thank you.

Thanks.Gin&Tonic wrote:The actual legislation (for an e class visa) probably requires such paperwork.
The reality has been that it has never been asked for. If it had been, it would be reported here in k440 I'm sure.
Clears up many things for me.

Slightly off-topic, but how do schools justify deducting tax from your pay if you are working illegally? And by the sounds of it most English teachers are teaching without a work permit. If they are hiring illegals to work at their school it would seem highly unlikely they are registering you with the government. Is this just a scam on the school's behalf?

I think from all the stuff I've read online, the letter has been asked for once or twice, but not asked for the other hundreds of thousands of times people have requested a business visa. You should be fine.agincourt wrote:Thanks.Gin&Tonic wrote:The actual legislation (for an e class visa) probably requires such paperwork.
