Just your thoughts on an English school for the 3 kids.
The kids came home with the prices from an English school.(Russey Keo area I won't name the school but a large school with quite a list of locations)
Prices are scribbled on a scrap piece of paper.
Written in Khmer only
Neither my wife or myself can understand what the prices are or the extras.(wife is Khmer)
So I called the school only to be told sorry we don't speak English.
So I tried another number again same response.
I asked in Khmer if there is anyone who does. The answer is no.
Wrote an email with no response.
My wife hops on the phone and asks a few questions. We are still both scratching our heads re pricing.
Asked if we could have a quick meeting with the teacher . Told no that is not possible. Asked if the teacher was a native english speaker. The answer was sometimes. Is this unusual for the schools here to be so unprofessional.
It seems like it's just give us money and the kids go to school and we don't really care.(rhetorical question know)
Will give them another call tomorrow .Maybe go to the school face to face.
So does anyone know schools in this area that teach English and their pricing. Even if it's a Cambodian teacher I can always tweak their pronunciation and grammar also adding an S for plural sometimes.
I don't see the point in paying good money for a poor education.
Schools in russey keo
Sorry for the late response, but the answer is YES to lots of schools and it doesn't stop at teaching English either, although there's better chance then hiring someone literate native. At one school I was dragged from my own class first hour in the morning to a different one when the mother got suspicious there not being any foreign teachers as advertised. Naturally I was the only one because no other foreigner (that can speak at least three words of English) would have accepted such a low pay. But even in that school there were people who could at least manage basic communication.
Here it is normal for cheap schools to employ a receptionist with no English to save money: It is not considered important because the customers are Khmer apart from in rate cases.. What I don't understand how did you enroll your kids into that school in the first place, did you not do any checks? I would also be weary about the idea of tweaking the kids' language at home, unless they have some grounding already: depending on how many hours they spend with Cambodians, their speaking habits can stick. You're better off spending just a little bit more money and find another school.
P.a. Sorry about any mistakes: I am writing this from my crummy mobile phone (spell checker not working) and the text is so small I can hardly see the letters.

Russei Keo covers a large area on both sides of the river, but a lot of it is industrial and run down so there aren't too many half-decent schools. I passed by one of those Suvaraphani (spelling?) schools last week at about KM 6. They are pretty much just a dressed-up version of the Newton Thilay schools. They probably do have a native-English teacher for a few hours a week.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
