Ni, I'm saying the situations are analogous. He no longer has his passport. He needs a new one. The embassy should give him one.Stagger Lee wrote: Are you suggesting vladimir might tell his embassy this tale outlined above (that his friend got all stabby etc) even though vladimir knows his passport is being held hostage by an unscrupulous seat of learning ??

Adding my own comments to this resurrected thread:
I teach in Naypyidaw (since early last year) and I also taught in Yangon in 2012 and 2013. Apartment prices in Yangon in 2012/13 were high, but I was able to find a 1-bed apartment downtown for 1.2 Lak (about $150 USD at that time).
Bob is a jolly chap, but I've turned down job offers on 2 occasions from him, primarily because Brainworks consist of various language/after-school branch offices accommodated in shop-houses all over Yangon. It's not the type of 'school' that I want to work for.
Salaries have definitely dropped over the past couple of years, mainly due (as mentioned by others) to the backpack crowd. My school still pays me a $3,000/month package (salary + hotel cost), plus the visa fees and flights/hotel to/from Bangkok.
I was in Yangon last week and found it very quiet - not many foreign tourists. Apparently the greedy landlords are now reducing their apartment rent rates because there are few takers.
If you steer clear of the usual expat delights (pizza, endless beers, drugs and hookers), then Myanmar is a dirt-cheap place to live. I save $2,000 USD every month in Naypyidaw, own a dirt-bike, mountain bike and pay $50/month for the gym/swimming pool fees.
When I looked for teaching jobs in PP, just before I returned to Myanmar, the salaries on offer were about $1,200 - $1,500 and I had big problems finding a job because of my age (58). No age issues in Myanmar - I teach KG/primary and my zimmer frame really helps me to move about in the classroom

I taught for Brainworks. HR is run by a an Aussie named Bob who is an uneducated narcissist who doesn't know how to do a professional interview and who fires teachers randomly.
He is a complete joke, students are lovely and they keep asking where their teachers went. A fucking joke!

Simon, I was wondering where you teach in Naypyiadaw? I have experience teaching in China and United States and was interested in going to Naypyiadaw next.
