I would indeed. Glad to see you used a little, teensy, dwarfy 's' for 'sir'. It would be fitting.Chuck Wow wrote:You'd probably be best referring to him as "sir"

I hope no one minds if I bring the thread back full circle.
I teach online from bkk, and, as mentioned in another post, don't like the direction the country is moving. Firewalls and control freaks ain't my thing.
Is it possible to find a townhouse in a safe neighborhood, with stable electricity and internet?
I have that here for 7000b +/- 1500b elec/ 1200b for30mbs fiber int/ 700bH2o/garbage
I hope to come for a test ride soon. Pun intended.

Accommodation will probably cost you more, electric about the same, you'll be able to afford Ezecom but it won't be as fast as you're used to, water will be cheaper.

That's what I was hoping to hear. I think the lack of Thai culture being rammed down my throat alone, by itself, would be worth the possible increase in rent. Not to mention 90-day reporting, currency exchange rates, blatant racism, highly skilled and talented drivers....., the inability to do anything without asking a Thai for permission, including taking your money out of the bank, double pricing, scams, xenophobia...(I should stop)walkjivefly wrote:You can't receive money into a Cambodian account with Paypal.Greentrees wrote:I thought PayPal wasn't accepted in Cambodge?

I'm reading that some use generators and UPS's to minimize downtime, which would take care of the electrical issue. I'm moving my work to the cloud, so as long as my connection was stable, working in the cloud would be fast. Water and garbage = non-issue
A lingering question....what's the situation on residential burglaries? For all it's faults, I don't worry about getting burgled in my particular neighborhood. Is it possible to find similar circumstances for similar money if I beat the bushes?
Please don't tell my momma I work in a oil patch. She think's I'm a piano player in a ho house.

Exchange rates have been pretty stable for quite a while, hopefully they'll stay that way but who knows?
Highly skilled and talented drivers are found everywhere here too. They are basically all fucking clueless retards. Their retardedness doesn't get any more endearing with time.
You can get your money out but not quickly. You can get your money out of the country too (at present. There's a recent thread about it). Hopefully that'll still be the case after the 2018 elections.
Double pricing exists, how much of a problem it is depends on who you are.
Xenophobia - you're not Vietnamese are you?
Using a generator and/or UPS is no use if your ISP is also hit by the power outage. I have no idea how often any ISP gets taken down by a power cut.
A 3G/4G dongle or phone with hotspot is a useful backup to any cabled ISP.
You'll trade uncertainty over what will happen when the king dies for uncertainty over the outcome/consequences of the 2018 elections.
You'll trade (availability of) pretty good healthcare for mostly mediocre/inadequate healthcare.
Looking at the razor wire and cages around some properties you'd think there was a burglary every 2 minutes. I'm not aware of any official stats and if there are any, I'd doubt their reliability. People who've been burgled or know someone who has probably fear it more than those who haven't. There are threads on here discussing how resourceful the burglars can be. Take sensible precautions but don't be overly worried about it.

Yeah, I would trade some things to get other things. The 49/51% business law, the caste/feudal system that is their culture and the racism are all things that make the place difficult. Some are more tolerant or have fewer options, or were dropped on their head as a child and may not have the self-esteem to remove themselves from dysfunctional relationships/situations. With the exception of a few, I find myself avoiding most Thai's. It's a common practice here, by those with common sense.
Re; the 18 elections vs. the big cheese here kicking it. I think the cheese is going down before the 18 elections, and Thailand will be a place to avoid while the featherweights find their direction again.
Since rent is so cheap here, and, if business continues to grow, I may set up 2 residences and go back and forth, depending on circumstances. This solves, or may solve, the cheese/18 issue. At this juncture, I'm just scouting.
If PP doesn't pass the smell test, I'll keep my head down, my business in the cloud and watch what plays out over the next 2/3 years in SEA. On the surface, PP represents opportunities you can't find in Thailand.
One thing is certain, and that is almost no country kicks out a person bringing in tax revenue. As long as I don't have to take a bugger-picking, ass-scratching, shrimped-dicked, uneducated know-it-all as a partner, due to business regulations, I may just open a business in Cambo. At this point, as mentioned, I'm just scouting.
Thank you for the quip about the elections. I didn't know they were an issue. Must familiarize myself! Cheers.

Yeah, I know. I was bitchin about Thailand's law. In Cambo, I can own it 100%, which makes the country attractive. I'm sure there are other vulgarities in PP, like sliding the tax man a 20 to register your biz tax payment every month.

I think even to have TEFL'er standards you have to be able to articulate the difference between understanding that the tax man is asking for an illegal payment and the fact that that knowledge does not exactly categorize you as anything, let alone a cheapskate. I prefer frugal.
If one were to extrapolate a character position based upon an arbitrary sentence, without knowing the person personally, and then attack the person publically, by the same valuation, the person attacking could possibly be characterized as a narcissist.
In reality, I was hoping for a business owner to say something like; 'yeah that happens', and then give me the lowdown.
Do TEFL'ers even have standards?
