There are various bummers about being in the teaching "profession" (if one can call it
that with a straight face) here in Southeast Asia, but let us pause and think of those less fortunate -
and in far greater danger - than ourselves ...

As some here will know, the 'Teach for America' program has had varying degrees of success and
failure; some bright-eyed and energetic young teachers dumped in notoriously horrible school
districts have made it no further than lunchtime on their first day on the job before fleeing without
so much as a word of farewell.
Pity the poor substitute teacher ...
