The Best & Worst Deals - personal experiences ...
What are contributors'happy and unhappy memories of best and worst deals and offers?
e.g. Bus to (and from Pursat - from PP) to be offered $7/hour for 5 hours a day on Sat and Sun ONLY -
"Well, you have another job, haven't you?"
And to be told that an NGO kiddie had worked for NOTHING for 2 months the year before ... the school director them said,
"Money isn't important!" and jangled the ignition keys of his Lexus 4x4 on the desk for emphasis.
SINGLE BEST: A job offer - taped to a utility pole with sellotape - which was 2 hours a day for
$15/hour - 5 days a week - $600/month for lovely easy work.

Best gig I ever had was with the Israeli Defence Force. Motivated young men and women.
Worst would have been when they asked us to train those Palestinians. There's a good reason why even all the Arabs hate those people.
But, hell, they can pitch a stone those little mofos.

Zaman International School's contract would be illegal as an "adhesion contract" in the US. In other words, it so completely favors the employer and is presented on a take it or leave it basis, that since approximately 1900 such contracts have been illegal. Examples of terms in the Zaman Contract: Zaman can terminate the contrct in as little as two weeks' notice, whereas the teacher must give 3 MONTHS notice to terminate. In addition, Zaman keeps part of the teacher's monthly salary ($100-$200) as a deposit, which the teacher will forfeit if they don't complete the contract. (I understand this is common in Cambodia, though I haven't seen such a draconian contract term in any other country.) Furthermore, if a teacher fails to meet a deadline, he/she is penalized $10 per day after the deadline has passed. Ouch! My anus stings. Another bizarre term of the Zaman contract: a teacher is penalized $.50 for each minute she is late for work. I must admit, this penalty I have never seen before and frankly could not have dreamed it up in my wildest teacher nightmare.
All after hours "fluff" meetings (this months' birthdays!?) are mandatory. Finally, mteachers are required to teach extra classes without being paid on a per hour basis. Never heard of that one either.
Amongst the weekly plans, the monthly plans, the long-term plans, the irrelevant (and incomprehensible) meetings, the Saturday meet the parents b/s, etc. a Zaman teacher is lucky to earn $5 per hour. A teacher is forced to do these things: as I described in a different thread, Zaman is Fascist.

You learned the business so quickly. Seems like you impressed and made some good friends in government institutions. Bravo. :pBeaker wrote:After I got out of prison where I was taught computer programming back in the early 80's. I was hired by the department of corrections to write a program for them. My best deal was to work a few years as a salesman for an IT company, observe and help discuss future OEM manufacturing deals before leaving them to go work somewhere else. A year later get hunted and rehired by them as a sales director (with insider intel) on a per box commission contract, to quickly finalize the deals and enjoy a big 5 figures monthly salary (higher than the one of the CEO) before getting fired a few years later with a huge check just before the company went bankrupt.

Beaker,
What's your point? Your post is infinitely vague. Are you boasting that you were in prison?
I just don't get what you are trying to say.

I left school at the age of 15 years, and Engrish was not my best subject, which showed itself when righting a job application. While in Australia I was always told to get into the mining business. So I did get into the minding business and eye have been very successful at it .
I think everyone should get into the minding your own business.
