Has anyone dealt with this organization? It's run by an American woman, who is also a real estate agent in the US. She basically places teachers with various schools (most of which are some of the worst teaching environments in Cambodia) and then takes a percentage of the teacher's salary. She rents various properties around the city and offers low-rent rooms to the teachers she places. One such property did not have running water every morning (when all the tenants were showering at once, the water tank ran out). Imagine having to go to the bathroom and not being able to flush the toilet. Peewww!
This woman promised to have that water problem dealt with numerous times, whilst knowing there was nothing to be done about it. In other words, she lied. She also now has a "call center" in this same building and is recruiting her teachers to make "cold calls" to people in the US to refinance their homes. If this were a legal business, why would she need a call center in Cambodia? That's a real head scratcher.
She also "hangs out" at the Cadillac Bar on riverside and makes regular visits to Happiness Pizza. She's reputed to have a close relationship with the owner of Happiness Pizza: Mary Jane.
Anyway, for all of you honest teachers out there, I advise you to stay away from Teachers in Cambodia.
Lester

Just to note, it's against the Cambodian Labor Law to demand and get kickbacks from an employee. So if she's really getting a percent of teachers' salaries as a fee for their placement, it's illegal.
The infamous cheryl, i believe. Looks like bride of frankenstein ('s monster) with worse dress sense and has a mouth like a two dime hooker.
There are other threads on here about this creature.

That's interesting. I have heard that the only(?) TEFL course in PP does/ tries to, do pretty much the same with the students that pass the course. Just the taking a monthly kick back fee for supplying the jobs - not the boiler house stuff. Why hasn't somebody kicked this woman square in the **** ?Joon wrote:Just to note, it's against the Cambodian Labor Law to demand and get kickbacks from an employee. If people traveled across the globe and too pussied to man up to her or the school, and still allowed the happy pizza eating lady to take a cut from their paychecks, I say well done.

Wow! I'm happy with the enthusiastic response to Cheryl. Is she or is she not the most physically unattractive woman you have ever laid eyes on? Bride of Frankenstein is "lovely" comparison.
Whether or not it is illegal in Cambodia is academic because whatever laws which exist are not enforced. Like much of the developing world, the law of the jungle controls, which I actually find refreshing. Too many rules make for a boring place.

Word was that the rules had changed in post-KiR times and that it was no longer acceptable for anonymous-pseudonymous
keyboard warriors to badmouth a named person.
Not that one is defending the woman and all her works, you understand.

Fair enough. But when Pedros said "cheryl" (i,e, Cheryl Gulch) I felt i was then free to use her name. However, in the spirit of the rules, we could follow Pedros' lead and simply refer to her as "the Creature."
The Creature liveth amongst us and it wants your money.

I know this woman very well as she got me a high paying job at Zaman which I negotiated, not her. She's an alcoholic who steals her teachers' paychecks when they leave their school and then kicks them out of her lodging.
Disgusting, dishonest, stupid, yes but cunning obviously as she is still doing business here and driving without a driver's license and preying on new, naïve teachers.
