Seeking feedback from members re my situation
Hi new member here and I'm writing as I need some clarification from teachers on the 'ground'. I know Cambodia is not the place to make a great income from English teaching but I was seriously considering heading to Phnom Penh as I heard pay was at least $1200 for an experienced native teacher with a degree and that Cambodia welcomed older teachers. So, what I'm now experiencing contradicts this.
I have a BA English major, 4 Tesols totalling 180 hours including the Advanced Tesol and also have three years of college in nursing. I have taught before including in China. I've applied to several positions as I await passport renewal in Canada. I have been offered two full-time positions, one disappeared when I asked whether it was salaried or hourly and what pay and the other offered a lot of hours and a very low calculated hourly pay along with only hiring me if I was 40 or younger which I am not. Are there just too many teachers that schools are reducing salary? Anyway, I would really appreciate some honest facts about teaching here.
Thanks

You may get double that at ACE.

The rest are probably not worth working for.

I thought the ACE myth had been debunked a while ago. Sure, they pay better hourly, but how many unpaid weeks/months holiday in a school year?
There was a thread about it a year or 2 back.

Older teachers are having a hard time of late as well, but females have a slight advantage. Scroll down to my topic "No Country For Old Men?".

Now is a good time to apply to schools in Myanmar because they are sorting out staff for the Water Festival 'summer camp'.
Ayewaddy School in Mandalay is currently advertising for summer school teachers, and that teaching period also serves as a probation period for then working on an annual contract.
Also, several of my teaching colleagues are probably leaving their jobs at Horizon School in Mandalay when the current term ends.
I'm based down in Naypyidaw, get $2,250 USD net each month, plus free board and transport at a high quality hotel. I save about 80% of my salary each month

Perhaps those 2 guys were total dicks! Myanmar is a very traditional country - you cannot 'hit' on any woman in public without consequences.
Sure, you can hit on obvious hookers inside a bar (not in the street). But your name will be 'mud' if you try to hit on any woman in the street.
If you don't want to stick to these rules, then better stay in Thailand
