Perhaps those 2 guys were total dicks! Myanmar is a very traditional country - you cannot 'hit' on any woman in public without consequences.
Sure, you can hit on obvious hookers inside a bar (not in the street). But your name will be 'mud' if you try to hit on any woman in the street.
If you don't want to stick to these rules, then better stay in Thailand

There are or were a lot of refugees flooding the US from Burma, possibly outpacing the Syrian refugees. FWIW some schools here need teachers that speak Burmese.
