Can someone who perhaps works as a grade school teacher in a local school help me out with info.
When you are not teaching ( i.e ; the kids regular school breaks ) are you getting paid your salary irrespective ? or do you only get paid when you work ?

If it's a "proper" school you should get paid 52 weeks a year, whether you are on vacation or not. I always have...

It completely depends on your contract. If you sign a contract for hourly pay, then you will not be paid for breaks.ricecakes wrote:Can someone who perhaps works as a grade school teacher in a local school help me out with info.

A salaried contract, you should be, but I'm sure that certain schools will try and get around it.
Thinking of TEFLing, ricecakes?

Maybe he's thinking of hiring someone to privately teach his kids and trying to figure out how little he can pay them.

Maybe you are just being a dumb cunt as usual.

I think many TEFLers here are on hours and struggle through holidays and breaks. Not all of them but a fair bit.

Beltei - max used to be 17 hours/week, it may have changed...17 x 12 = 204 x 4 = $832
PUC pays $11
Factor in 10 day term breaks after every 10-week semester, around 30 unpaid national holidays, no paid leave/sick leave and cancelled classes, WP and visa...it's not really surprising many are struggling.
Some of the things I've listed...no paid leave, unpaid national holidays, sick days etc. are illegal under the Labour Law, iirc.

They just got rid of half their native teaching staff and replaced them with Khmer, so the hours have been halved for some.vladimir wrote:Beltei - max used to be 17 hours/week, it may have changed...17 x 12 = 204 x 4 = $832
.
At least that's what I have been told.
I don't take on a client unless they pay for cancellations and holidays now. You'd be amazed at how often they suddenly turn up for class. With up to three months holidays here including term breaks, the situation is, as per normal in the KOW, farcical.
