True, complete bastards, expect honesty from employers, avoid them if you are a failed TEFLer turned dodgy accountant with questionable ethics and poor linguistic skills. Try recruiting slave labour elsewhere.GMJS-440 wrote:Did you try here?

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.

You advertised for students, without having any sort of actual school or teachers, and you're surprised that you didn't any takers? Can you please post this ad for us?johntpartee wrote:Well, I did say "final gripe"; shoulda left it at that, but this really is final. I came here three years ago, found a position within two weeks (signed a stinker of a three-month contract just to get my foot in the door). When they asked me to renew, I gave them my terms for the new contract [I won't go into detail about what I wanted changed, but nothing outrageous]. They refused. I left and came back about a year ago. My plan was to start my own school from the ground up. I advertised for students and the only responses I got were from people who thought I was hiring teachers (folks who claimed to be English teachers who couldn't read a simple ad). So...I started making the rounds of all of the established schools to find a position. One place told me I was too old (they obviously couldn't be bothered to read my resume; I graduated high school in 1971 [pretty conclusive evidence that I'm a mature man]). At another school they thought I was hard of hearing (I was having difficulty understanding the administrators at the interview because their English was so poor). Just two of the examples of what I've experienced; many others equally ludicrous. So....this time I really mean it: FINAL GRIPE!
Pretty please.
I'm in the same boat. Have handed resumes into about 20 schools including Beltei and not a peep so far. Kinda sick of walking around sweating my arse off in business attire in 35 degree heat handing in resumes to schools only to have some Cambodian secretary more or less grunt at me as i hand them the resume. Fucking No Joke Howard got a job as an English teacher here! I thought it would be easier than this. At least an interview or 2.

I said "FINAL GRIPE!", but since you said "pretty please".....
No actual school? I was going to rent an extra apartment in my building to use as a classroom.
No actual teachers? I'm an actual teacher; if I got enough students and needed any more actual teachers, I would have hired them as needed.
The ad (flyers, business cards, one of the English language newspapers and Facebook):
John T. Partee
I am a certified English instructor accepting students for private or group sessions
1-3 students: $15 dollars per hour
4-6 students: $20 per hour
All levels All ages
My e-mail
My phone number
My address
(I was in contact with an individual who was helping me with the legalities of doing this, i.e., squaring things with the authorities so that everything was open and above board.)

So, you were advertising to be a tutor, not to run a school. Lexical semantics matter, which you should know, as an actual teacher.johntpartee wrote:I said "FINAL GRIPE!", but since you said "pretty please".....

Yeah, you're right; one more reason that I'm throwing in the towel is that I'm too stupid.

O.P. You could go and talk to a temple (or few), always plenty of monks wanting to improve, possibly a chance for you to.
...Always in my humble opinion...
I love all people, I just don't like them near me.

The exact quote was "final gripe". My last post was not a gripe, just an assessment of my abilities (and the lack thereof).

Go west young.. er .. old man!
No, not the USA, Myanmar beckons.
As I previously posted, At 57, I couldn't find a decent teaching job in PP, so returned to teach in Myanmar on a salary 3 times higher than the only offer I had in PP.
A teaching colleague has just changed teaching jobs in Mandalay with a good pay rise - he is about 67 years old.
The other foreign teacher at my school is 64 years old...
Forget PP - no country for old men
