These days in Cambodia’s capital, western cultural influences still appear dominant. Foreign films, English signs, and billboards are seen across the city.
Western brands are popular in stores and on the streets.
Why do you think it is important for Cambodians to learn English?
I truly believe that English is the indispensable language of the 21st century. You don’t have to take my word for it – just look around the world. According to statistics, there are approximately 400 million English language learners in China alone. In Singapore, school lessons are taught almost entirely in English starting in primary school.Children in Europe are starting to learn English at an increasingly early age. What do all of these places have in common? They all know that speaking English is the key to global competitiveness.

A badly executed plug for a tutoring service.
That was a disappointment.

It seems rather trite these days. It is currently spoken in some form by 30% of the world's population, but its dominance as the language of the internet is declining. Most countries use American spelling and pronunciation, rather than British, which is the case in Cambodia. That makes sense, as American spelling is more phonetically correct.
Most of the world's leading linguists believe that Standard English will not be the world language of the future. Instead, they believe a hybrid language, based on English, will evolve and contain many elements of other languages, particularly Asian. That is how Standard English evolved and it was not recognised as a distinct language until the early 17th. century, according to the world's top linguist, David Crystal, who is English.

That's the reason why the English language has survived to this day - languages that refuse to accommodate new words, or modification of existing words generally die out. Cambodians already speak Khmenglish quite a lot, listen to even high level conversations and it will be interspersed with English that simply makes even Khmer easier to use.
Try ordering some sparkling water next time you're at the restaurant; invariably you'll end up asking something like this .. "saum tuk-sot spuk-ah-ling muoy"

Malaysians already speak a odd mix off Malay/English hybrid language as do India and many other countries.
I don't believe there will ever be one distinct English hybrid, wether it evolves or is created (Like Esperanto), too many different speakers and users.
It's interesting that English is used to communicate in China and India amongst difference indigenous groups.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
Many linguists agree with you. Esperanto was a failure and has only 4 million speakers worldwide. The new varieties of English are now studied in linguistics. In a recent Cambridge paper, students were asked to compare the language variations in an imaginary conversation between an Australian, Malaysian and Pakistani, who were supposedly working together in Singapore. Quite amusing in places.
Yes, this post is a poor attempt at advertising another business.
I have no issue if person " A " wants to promote a business and says this is the business I want to promote and these are my reasons.
Just be upfront and honest about it.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.
