Work options for highly qualified, experienced teachers
I'm curious to know my options regarding teaching positions in Phnom Penh. Are there any higher paying jobs than the ones at ACE? I have a Master of TESOL, a Postgraduate Diploma in Secondary teaching, a double honours degree in Spanish Language/Cultural Studies, and a Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing, along with seven years experience (predominantly in language schools).
I've been to Cambodia twice, so "don't come to Cambodia, you can make more in Vietnam" posts aren't really necessary. It's the wild-west nature of the place that attracts me. In 2011, I worked as a teacher in Colombia, so I understand the ins and outs of dealing with management in a developing country. I also have some experience teaching at postgraduate level, having taught a semester as a maternity-leave replacement in the Diploma of Education programme at RMIT in Melbourne.
I think I remember reading that Royal University of Phnom Penh has some well-paid positions, but it's unclear whether I'd be qualified to teach there. And I'm not really a fan of teaching children, unless the ones at Northbridge aren't the entitled little shits I imagine them to be.
As a side note, does anyone teach online from Phnom Penh? Is internet connectivity stable and reliable enough these days? Some of the newer positions (China-based companies) have some decent $20-$25+/hr pay rates.
Thanks in advance.

I know ISPP teachers get paid very well for Spanish, apt. allowance, etc.

Yeah nowadays, it's more like the Pissed East.gavinmac wrote:Wild West nature of Cambodia? I think you're 10-15 years late.
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

That sounds interesting. Do you have any other information about this? In particular the salary?

Yeah, lol, I probably should have said "the last vestiges of what remains of the country's wild west nature" or something to that effect.
The Pissed East doesn't sound bad.
I'm just sick to death of the sociopolitical reality of Australia and the absurd political correctness that is pervasive in western societies. I guess I'm in serious need of adventure.

Earning USD 35k, getting your $800 secure condo paid for, and the odd weekend 'meeting' at the Sofitel free flow brunches sure sounds an adventure.

No.
Why not leverage your Diploma in Professional Writing and actually write? There is money to be made if you can write to market and then not only are you creating residual income, you can be location independent.
At best ESL/EFL is a pseudo intellectual *profession* and at its worst it's edutainment.

Earning 35K and not paying rent, while not adventurous in itself, would sure leave me with a lot of coin to spend on whichever adventure I see fit.
And I'd be interested in any writing position that pays well. What kind of options are there in PP?

Expat obituaries and missing person notices might not pay well, but it would be steady work.Kim Jong Un wrote:

Hey, you never know where you'll end up after three hours of bottomless champagne...LexusSchmexus wrote:C'mon, it's basically the same as paddling up the Mekong with de Lagrée in 1866!epidemiks wrote:Earning USD 35k, getting your $800 secure condo paid for, and the odd weekend 'meeting' at the Sofitel free flow brunches sure sounds an adventure.
