Insurance
Hi Andy,
The company is Healthcare International based in the UK.
I have the Emergency Plus Plan,I was wrong about the excess,it is £1400 not £2000.
I am 53 years old and I pay £515 and that includes a £50,000 payout to my family should I die as the result of a Accident.
It is basically a stripped down version of their more expensive policy but still covering the major stuff and Emergency evacuation but not visits to dentist, optician etc.
Let me know what you think,I went over everything very carefully and asked loads of Questions and everything looked OK.
I doesn't cover any illness you have had in the last 5 years but I think that is standard for all policies.
Web site is: www.healthcareinternational.com.
Customer Care : +44(0)20 75908800.

That all sounds great; however, do you need to be based in the UK when you take out the policy, or is being a UK passport-holder sufficient? Or do they care if you have any connection to the UK or not - can I take out a policy for my Cambodian wife?
Edit: reading the site now - policies for expats - nice!
Edit of edit: gone through it - yes, looks very reasonable indeed. Cheers
I came, I argued, I'm out
Andy,I think you can insure your Khmer wife but not 100% sure.If you find out let me know because I want to do the same at my next renewal.

It seems doable. I just put in details of myself and my wife - I'm not a good at scrutinising small print but I didn't see anything to exclude her. The price looks decent value but is at the very edge of what is financially viable for us, so we'll check out finances over the next week to 10 days and see if we can go for it.Birdy wrote:Andy,I think you can insure your Khmer wife but not 100% sure.If you find out let me know because I want to do the same at my next renewal.

There's one policy for everyone in the world EXCEPT you scum, and a completely separate one for you. I momentarily wondered why but gave up when I failed to find the 'give a fuck' link.cambod wrote:Does it cover yanks?andyinasia wrote:It seems doable. I think they just know they couldn't possibly offer the kind of standards we are used to.....andyinasia wrote:There's one policy for everyone in the world EXCEPT you scum, and a completely separate one for you. ;-D
Actually, as I suspected the coverage does not depend on your nationality but on the location of treatment. Most policies of this type charge a considerably higher price if coverage in the USA is included. In this case, about twice as much. That's what happens when you have the most expensive health care in the world.andyinasia wrote:There's one policy for everyone in the world EXCEPT you scum, and a completely separate one for you. Ok so America has the most expensive health care in the world but the likely hood of making a claim in Cambodia etc is much higher,eg Traffic Accidents.Buscador wrote:Actually, as I suspected the coverage does not depend on your nationality but on the location of treatment. Wouldn't this balance things out?
Considering how expensive our healthcare is, noooooooooooBirdy wrote:Ok so America has the most expensive health care in the world but the likely hood of making a claim in Cambodia etc is much higher,eg Traffic Accidents.Buscador wrote:Actually, as I suspected the coverage does not depend on your nationality but on the location of treatment. Most traffic accidents in Cambodia--especially those that involve expats, who would be likely to buy such policies--seem to be of two types:
1. Low speed collisions that result in scrapes and bruises if one of the people involved is not in a car.
2. High speed collisions where the person not in the car/truck is torn in half and killed.
Neither results in a payout by a health insurance company.
Whereas in the USA a fall off a curb that tears a knee ligament can cost $20,000+.

So, I can add £600 to my list, cool
Nothing but an opinionated tourist. The Pope spends more time in countries than I do ! It is also not my place to comment on a gentleman's dress. A real 23 minute wonder, that obviously knows little about ovens and cooking in Cambodia.
