The article says finding the definition of "kiki lu" is hard to find like flight MH370. Some say it's what you call a dog that's fallen into a drain "lu". Some say that's it's the noise a woman makes when she's having sex. Others say it's when you only managed to have sex one time.Joon wrote:This article in Khmer tried to answer that question: http://thmeythmey.com/index.php?page=de ... 4312&lg=kh (Don't have the time now to translate, so seek help from Google or a Cambodian-speaking good samaritan)
And a Twitter user gave a lead to that song, but it's a rather stretched guess: (Warning: WTF and head-shaking reaction ahead)
What does "Kiki Lu" mean?

Just go with it....
I wouldn't even try to make sense of it...
These words are not in the khmer dictionary.... and your average khmer teacher will not teach you.
I guess it would be termed as slang??
maybe someone (say a teacher) else with greater knowledge than me can provide advice.

None of those around me are aware of any other meaning for Kikki Lu other than dog and shake their head at the alternatives suggested.

Mostly its a teenager (steu) Freshy kinda thing, but definitely not limited to that demographic. Matter of fact i was in Cavern last night having a laugh about these songs / words with the girls... they are mid twenties i believe? and they all know the words clearly.
Go to any young khmer club such as Fever, Holiday, Casa etc and you will hear these songs and hear them all screaming the words having a riot and a laugh about the meaning. Most will have these songs on their phones or look via you tube...Also in the provinces parties are where you will find these songs.

Kiki is a nice way to address a dog (or maybe other pets as well), usually used with children to address the dog. With older people you will refer to dog with other words.Busta_Rhodesian wrote:I've been hearing and seeing this phrase all over phnom penh and in various KHmer songs and comedy bits lately. Lu means to hear,
so literally it means 'hearing the dog(s)'.
Since Cambodian language is often indirect, and many others say this saying has sexual connotations, I think we know what it means now....
But one question back, where have you been hearing this phrase all over PP? I'm not in PP, but in 4,5 years I've never heard this one....
Hmmmm... Maybe I was wrong. Kiki lu should maybe mean:Kachang wrote:Kiki is a nice way to address a dog (or maybe other pets as well), usually used with children to address the dog. 'the dog is hearing'., or better: 'the dog hears'.
So the question is, what's the dog listening to / hearing?
What the girl says in the song is "Kiki loo" which means "to howl."
I just listened to that song's remix and damn it's very sexually suggestive. Considering how traditional and conservative the Cambodian society is, I'm surprised that it makes a buzz in the open like that.
The song seems to suggest that the girl is getting cold and the man seeks to warm her. And that's when she says "Kiki loo".
I'm wondering whether it could refer to a belief that dogs would bark and howl when a couple's having sex, thus giving them away?

Am I hearing the right song? A Filipino told me it was either Cebuano / Tagalog or another Filipino dialect, the song is probably from one of the Filipino DJs out there, some can be quite talented musically.
The Filipino told me "kukilo" meant "It's ticklish!" and when the boy says, "Bahala!" it means "I don't care/come what may/whatever!"
You guys are WAY off-base if we're talking about the same song! Learn some Khmer, will you!

In a comedy sketch with Peak Mi, there's a girl wearing a short skirt. He can't use profanity outright so he replaces it with KiKi Loo. So he'd be referring to her vagina, but instead of that he replacing to by saying Kiki loo. Like people saying Thank Dog instead of Thank God.

I couldn't quite put my finger on where I knew or thought I'd heard those lyrics before, I was constantly hearing it being played and sung last time I was in PP and it was driving me crazy racking my brains to work out where I knew it from.James Bong wrote:Its a song... same as ""Pok Pu Na Ne" which also has sexual meaning.
A couple of weeks ago I was listening to an old school mixtape and heard it! "Pok Pon Na He" is just a rip-off from Afrika Bambaataa's "Pupunanny".
I'm not a negative person, I encourage people all the time...it's usually to f**k off! But, whatever.

It all started with this one (followed by an infinite number of remixes) only focussing on the Kiki Loe/Lu
Kiki stands for dog or is a common name for a dog.
លូ (loe/lu) means to howl
As stated before, for Khmer youth it has a rather 'funny' sexual connotation since dogs in heat are howling.
Khmer humor, not my thing.
