They can translate from Khmer to English well but are very unlikely to accurately translate to Khmer.
Pacific & Specific - damn that makes me want to break fellow British necks!
What chance have these people got when they can't even speak their own language?

Disagree with this completely.LeonardKirksey wrote:They can translate from Khmer to English well but are very unlikely to accurately translate to Khmer.
Most second language speakers have a much larger passive vocabulary (words we know but not well enough to speak) than active vocabulary (words we know and can say them).
This means we can translate back to our first language much better than we can to their second language.

I would say not mispronounced, but rather "slurred". I have listened to Cambodians with various accents. The more exposure you have, you will understand more.

Seems a stupid question coming from someone who had reportedly lived in SHV for years and has a Khmer partner!

k440, something to do when you're pissed.
I think I saw him mention his partner is Burmese.
It's anything ending in an S or Z sound that's the most obvious problem for my wife. Ask her to say 'Wales' for hours of fun where she occasionally gets it right, then immediately forgets the correct way to say it. Their tongues just aren't trained for it.
This popular new song is a good example, where both performers can't pronounce a word that's in the title.
