Simon. Do you have any idea how tech savvy the young educated Vietnamese are? They have a thousand free ways to access the information you intend providing. I doubt if most of them know what a text is.
I assume they are your target market rather than the 3 illiterate hotel owners that might need the odd word.
What's the Khmer (and Vietnamese) for 'teacher'?

I didn't mean they work have to work for you, just have an email relationship with a local to translate some words for you. pay on a per word basis. Wouldn't be involved at all in the app but you'll get a better translation than from google translate etc.simon44 wrote:Nope. In all my business ventures, the only ones which have been a success have been where I and my computer software are the only 'staff'. Every time that I have employed someone (or had a serious relationship), they have lied, cheated, stolen IP, been lazy, been drunk etc etc.Bringing in GBP 70k a month I reckon you could probably stretch to hiring a local in each country.
Just a thought
Now I never employ staff (and never have serious relationships). For the SMS, I don't need to employ staff because once I've written the application, it runs almost automatically)
I agree with a few others that I don't think there is a huge market for it. even less well off Khmer have smartphones and a very good translation app will only cost $1-2.
I personally feel that asking for free help whilst then charging a substantial fee (in relative terms) is a little off

Thanks for your comment. I've done my 'homework' on this one, and I've developed many profitable mobile services since 1999. I trust my own research and coding skillsSimon. I'm shocked that you think 5 cents is a substantial fee........then charging a substantial fee (in relative terms)...
Well, for just one word.simon44 wrote:Thanks for your comment. I've done my 'homework' on this one, and I've developed many profitable mobile services since 1999. And it's not a one-timer, is it? It's a subscription. I agree you are trying to use an ancient technology most people have stopped using quite some time ago.
Sellers, including the network carriers, love the SMS as a tool, since it's such a profitable service, but the phone users have stopped using SMS years ago because there's cheaper and better alternatives around.
Anyhow, time will tell. Good luck.
The business of you all is nice for user to learn english. Keep it up good job. If you need to help about Vietnamese language. Dont hesitate let me know.

Most who've spent time in Cambodia will know the spoken form for male and female "Teacher".
But how do you say..."Headmaster" and/or "Headmistress" of a school or, for that matter..." School Principal" ?
Romanized versions appreciated.

If that is true, why are you teaching kindergarten kids in Myanmar right now? Shouldn't that prior gurudom of yours have provided you with enough funds for a comfortable, early retirement? All these premium rates. Call me a skeptic.simon44 wrote: Years ago, I was a 'guru' in developing SMS text messaging services, especially SMS where the end-user was charged a premium rate for receipt of said message or message content that they had requested.
