I have a dreambox in Thailand and I'll be moving to Siem Reap in June. Does anyone currently use a dreambox. If you do, did someone help you to set it up in Cambodia? What satellites can you get in Cambodia? What is 'normal' cable in Siem Reap? What is the monthly cost? How many English speaking channels?
Thanks
Dreambox in Cambodia
I suspect but can't be 100% sure that you will be able to access the same satellites in SR as you can in Thailand. You will just need to point your antenna correctly. I would think you can find someone in SR to help you do that. Ask around at any bars that have satellite TV to find out who set it up for them. Just don't let them tinker with anything else, or there is no telling what problems you will end up with. I am surprised to see someone with a Dreambox asking questions like this, as it is made primarily for TV and Linux hobbyists who know a lot more about the subject than I do. Did you buy it from someone who provided a full install and setup service?

Your dreambox will work fine here in Cambodia. You can buy the dish, if you need one in PP, but finding a good guy to hook it up is not so easy. The guy I had out got the dish dialed in somewhat............but the next day I went up on the roof with a small TV I could hook into the dish and improved it quite a bit.
The satellite comes from South Africa and has all of the supersport channels, plus an ESPN that shows American Football and has American Sportscenter. In addition, there are other channels including Discovery, and the aforementioned news channels, but I just use it for sports here at the "Lone Star Saloon."
Good luck.

I forget the model number off the top of my head, but the dreambox is not available in Cambodia.
You can buy one in Bkk, but IMO............they are no way worth the hassle unless you have a specific need to have one, i.e. showing sporting events at a bar. Otherwise, not worth the effort as they tend to be high maintenance.

Speak to JSAT in BKK. Just add them to your msn and they will happily answer all questions and sell you what you need.

Ubbe, I can only speak from personal experience.......like having my dish freeze up during the AFC championship game with a barful of people.
I have a feeling that my dish may be configured differently than yours.
At any rate, I believe Murray has also had some issues with his.
I stand beside my comment that it is really not worth it......IMO, unless you have a specific need or really want to see a particular sport. Although the ESPN I get from South Africa is vastly superior to European ESPN.......the rest of it is just 45 more channels with nothing to watch.
I am however, a near expert at installing sat. dishes.........as I had to fire the guy that was doing it and do it myself.

I have about 5000 channels for free. I have one card from a swedish company and share that whid friends from Sweden, Spain , Italy, GB Germany and Netherlands. I have every? sporthappening (i dont like looking at sport) a lot of adult gymnastic channels and a lot of crap aswell. I think there is about 20 different providers and I can see almost everything... It can do almost everything exept getting more beers...
Yes it is worth it but you can do the same thing using a ordinary computer aswell.
Look at http://linuxmce.com/ or http://www.team-mediaportal.com/index.php
or http://www.dvbviewer.com/en/index.php but still is Dreambox the RollsRoyce of digital telly recivers...
