Is live music killing Sharkies? Is live music killing Sharkies?Sharkies (8pm - 11pm) was once one of the places to go to meet hookers, up there with Martinis (11pm to 1am) and the Heart (1am-3am). Now with the new focus on live music I hear the bar is quieter than before (isn't everywhere) and was wondering if this is true it's because of the change of focus from being a freelance girlie bar to a more proper non girlie bar.

Re: Is live music killing Sharkies?I think you're right dv8.
Everytime I've gone there this year it's been 2/3s empty, but they've usually had some awful live band annoying the shit out of me Back in early 2010 when it was still a pickup joint the place was full I miss the old days
Re: Is live music killing Sharkies?Old days=2010? Um ok... Has it really gone crazy with music lately or what?
The music has definitely changed the demographics though, too many backpacker chicks now, but it's still one of the only places in town that actually looks like a bar and has good western food.
Re: Is live music killing Sharkies?I've never been there for the music, but I've noticed that there are a lot fewer pushy hookers around the place. There used to be a bunch of girls circling the bar, poking you in the back, etc. Now there are just a few girls sitting around and playing pool and they don't approach you (unless you signal that you want them to, I imagine). At least that's my recent experience. It's a much more civilized system.
Re: Is live music killing Sharkies?
Good western food? It has western food but i've never been that impressed to be honest. It does look like a bar though.
Re: Is live music killing Sharkies?
Yeah it sucks now. Most of the chicks don't go there anymore and they've been replaced by generic old rock n roll dudes and the few townies that cheer them on. As a result it's empty most nights.
Re: Is live music killing Sharkies?I would be interested as to why tarts would leave a place which changed from canned to live music.
What difference would it make? Weren't they playing the same type of music from mp3? Guess Khmer ladies are becoming more discerning about their hunting grounds. People who steal from banks get jail. Banks who steal from people get bonuses. You gotta love capitalism!
Re: Is live music killing Sharkies?I assumed a memo went out that they weren't as welcome anymore
Re: Is live music killing Sharkies?Last night was jampacked for the battle of the bands. Dont think the music is killing them at all. I think they took a good amount of profit from last night.
Goodbye America, if anyone asks, say we were shipwrecked. Goodbye to your junk and your old hideola. Have a nice day.

Re: Is live music killing Sharkies?last time I was in Sharkies, i was with my friend eating some food. by the way, is there any more overrated food in town than Sharkies? they have a reputation, but damn the food is mediocre at best. Anyways i was having a beer and a Korean chick sat two chairs away from me. I started chatting her up before this old, bald, dirty, fully red-bearded guy pulls up next to her and starts talking to her for the next 30 minutes, eating her popcorn, drooling all over the place, and she was talking to that guy rather than me!
anyways the band started playing their first set a few minutes later and i was out the door cuz they really sucked. no worthwhile girls to be seen. only a couple of older prozzies, and they all looked as sickly as that bald guy.
