Re: Do bargirls often reinvent themselves? You and caring/ sharing = NOT.
I did spill my gin and tonic. People who steal from banks get jail. Banks who steal from people get bonuses. You gotta love capitalism!
Re: Do bargirls often reinvent themselves? After surviving 7 years living in the Angeles City cesspit, I thought I knew everything about bargirl duplicity. Thanks to Cambod for showing me that none of us is omniscient. The point that the hardcore vets use their real names, while the newbies don't, is 100% correct, though it had never occurred to me before.
There are plausible reasons for this. Newbies often claim that their families don't know what they're doing-Family think I work waitress, housekeeper etc. In some cases, it may be true, as some people in the villages still believe that anyone working in the big city earns fabulous money. In most cases, it is part of the plethora of lies inculcated on beginners by the mamasans. As I have stated on other threads, the lies work, as evidenced by the number of posters on this forum who still swallow them whole. It is almost impossible for the vets to maintain innocence, unless the customer is unbelievably gullible; which is sometimes the case. Instead, they adopt the victim of circumstance stories-forced into the bars at an early age by evil procurers, family etc. In most cases, the families are to blame and there is no need to hide their real identities. Their favourite persona is the well-worn whore with a heart of gold routine and it often works. The bottom line is the newbies adopt false identities, because their real background would contradict the persona they are using, while, in the case of the vets, it supports the lines they are using. Newbies are also looking at other alternatives-waitress etc., while there are no alternatives for the vets.

required to entertain overnight guests. Have the Sony Handycam ready.
Re: Do bargirls often reinvent themselves?I think they move on, GM. Some of them at least. I have seen two girls that I recognize from several years ago. One is a former freelancer, now a facebook friend, who is opening a guesthouse (with what looks to be a youngish European guy probably bankrolling it). The other is a former Sharkey's (very, very) regular who is deaf and had the annoying proclivity for getting into vocal moaning fights with patrons. She would be readily recognizable to nearly every punter who'd been there a few years ago. I saw her in line at Lucky's Soriya with a small baby and an older French husband. They looked happy.
Re: Do bargirls often reinvent themselves? It's not just bargirls who use or adopt completely different names. It's quite common among all classes in Cambodia for a variety of reasons.
