Thanks, picaroon.
So it looks like Cambodia is the cheapest, after the country of origin, then?
Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar all more expensive.

I'm only comparing to the US where my business was and half my tiny brain is full of this stuff. Retail on the imported wines I know is around 30% higher than in the US. I'm not talking about any US wines either. Italy, Spain, Argentina, Chile, S Africa, Oz, NZ etc. Not so familiar w/French & I know there's still a bit of a special relationship there still w/Cambodia. The dollar got so low, I stopped buying them (except for Rhones). Not complaining, Cambodia is much better than anyone else in the neighborhood. A lot of booze prices are just astounding and make my eyes pop out of my head. Just bought a bottle of St James Rum for $12 at Bayon & they had to ship it an extra 15,000 kms. It cost me $28 wholesale in the States. Hell, until about 4 years ago you could get a shot of Remy or Hennessy XO at the bar at PNH for $3 ! I said "I'll take 25 shots. Just give me the bottle. Here's the $75". Made him all nervous and he wouldn't do the deal though.
Cambodia is still the cheapest for imported wines in the region.vladimir wrote:Thanks, picaroon.

The wine I referenced above averages $15 plus sales tax in the US. This is a useful website for comparing booze prices around the world (not strong on Asia)

In fact dutycalculator.com doesn't reflect all the taxes and charges on wine in Thailand. This calculation shows another whopping 150% 'Excise Tax' on top of the sum of the import value and 'import duty':picaroon wrote:
And for Thailand -
If this is accurate then the 'Thailand has punitive import duties' argument for its outrageous wine pricing doesn't add up.Chianti has an import duty rate of 54% , excise fee of THB100.00 per liters and VAT rate of 7%, Interior Tax rate is 10%, Surcharge rate is 0%.
They're even taxing the taxes. Fuckers.

I want to test out these cheap khmer places. Good Dreams by The Rock bar. I see The Rock Bar on Monivong, I assume that if I can get to there I can be within eyeshot of Good Dreams.
I also wanted to test out Sovanna BBQ which I believe I read was off Sihanouk. Does anyone have a landmark or intersection of Sihanouk this place is on.
Many thanks!

Did you perform a steak out?
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

Had a nice steak at Metro the other night. At least the meat was of a good size and tenderness and the sides were done well. Had to send it back since I asked for MR and it was blue. IMO, the Kampot pepper sauce is bloody awful though. Totally out of balance. Ask for it on the side.

Best steak deal right now?
New Japanese place with a promotion through August.
$5 lunch steak that comes with a beer or soda, and that's some calamari in there too...
Or a 300g rib-eye steak for $7 after 5p.m.
Found my date spot for the month! ! ! !

went there yesterday... food was good value but if you're looking for a quick lunch forget it! Only 7 customers, 4 waiting staff-2 japanese, but we waited 40 minutes for our food to come and then 25 minutes for the coffee! The coffee gets my vote for the worst in PP. Teething problems as they are still doing construction on the second floor hence the promotion.
