I order the lasagna which I think is pretty good. However it is painfully slow at lunch, the time we saw you there ours took more than an hour to arrive. They really need a jazz combo so couples on first dates don't have to struggle for an hour to make conversation.gavinmac wrote:I went to L'Orchidee a few weeks ago for lunch based on recommendations here. It sucked. Let me explain why. First, the setting and atmosphere isn't very nice. Barbed wire, nearby construction, very bland interior. Service was incredibly slow even though there weren't many people there at all. It took about forty minutes for them to start bringing out any food, and of course they started by just bringing white rice. Then the rest of the food 5 minutes later. The food was just OK, but we ordered the Khmer food, maybe we should have gotten Western food.
Lone Pine has pretty good food. The stools at the bar are kind of cheap and the surface area of the stools is too small and my ass isn't all that big. They also skimp on the french fries.

It's a made-to-order sandwich outlet and it's becoming a regular lunch place for me.
Also "Box", right next to Ramen Kiosk isn't too shabby. I like the place.
Also, I passed by a noodle place that seems pretty popular: Noodle boat Eight Bowls or something. Didn't try it, but the place was packed in the evening when I drove by.
Noodle Eight I think it's called. That place is a phenomenon! They've just opened a second restaurant on Mao Tse Tung next to May bank. It's literally been fully full at all times of day since it opened a week or so a go.Joon wrote:Grab & Go, by the manager of Persian restaurant Kaviar.DetroitMuscle wrote:Bump

I've not been yet to either location but I'm pretty impressed by their success. And from a distance all there customers look like young middle class freshies. A great market segment.
It's called 8 Boat Noodle ...they've got a Facebook page (obviously) and their noodles look pretty ordinary...it must be something they put in their soup.
Checked their Facebook page and it says it's a Thai restaurant.
And the pictures of their noodles remind me of a very tasty noodle soup I had in Bangkok's J.J. Green Night Market.
If Eight Boath Noodle's recipes are anything like what I sampled in Bangkok, then it's to die for!
The servings on the pictures look very small though, so I guess that's why people go for a few more bowls!
It might be the secret too? Small servings mean concentrated stock and packed flavors. And you can try different flavors in one sitting.

Da Sandro and Buffalo Sister both have great sandwiches
Italian House and Piccola Italia da Luigi have great pizza
Malis is my favorite Khmer restaurant
The Duck is always good
Phnom Penh really has great places to eat. I have a list of places that I've heard good things about but haven't had a chance to try yet.

The lasagna at l'orchidee is very good, but again, the service is painfully slow. The genial host does his bit to hide the awkward wait, but something has to change before I use it more often.
I found Box a little bland, but carbonara can be. It deserves another go.
Phnom Penh India do a great dopiaza, there naans are great, they deliver efficiently, and portions are huge.
I had a great burger at java recently too!

About "Box," let's be clear, it's no fine dining or anything transcending!the_purple_turtle wrote:I found Box a little bland, but carbonara can be. It deserves another go.
Their sauces are probably bought and they seem to pre-cook their pasta. The pasta are something I could cook at home! But it's quick, clean, filling and has some flavor
The formula (pasta or rice in a box with sauces and toppings and panini) is simple and works for me for some quick lunch on the go.

Yes but it is quite expensive for what you get. The box itself must eat up a good chunk of the cost.

I have given Brooklyn Pizza another chance and every time, they have delivered a delicious pizza.billybonkers wrote:i enjoy shabu shabu buffet good and cheap sometimes gets to busy and not much comes round on the belt there was two tables of chinese at the start of the belt last time i went no meat came round for 30 mins greedy c@@ts
DetroitMuscle wrote:Just got Brooklyn Pizza delivered to our home 10 minutes away from the shop. I am beyond disappointed! After all the hype and talk, we finally ordered one. We got the " Godfather" .... When it was finally delivered, at 2:30 PM on a Wednesday, we opened the box to find a half assed pizza sitting there. My first thoughts " I just paid $12 for this?"
Just finished the first slice and it has to be one of the worst pizzas I have tasted. I've had a lot better from the $5 happy pizza places. Bad day perhaps? At 12 dollars a pizza, I expected a lot better. We both ate 1 slice and the rest is going in the bin. Horrible.
