Tried to go to Howie Bar (the original one) last night at 1:30 a.m. It was closed. I asked a tuk tuk driver outside why it was closed he said because no customers tonight.
It's a late night bar, it's almost always open until 3:30 at least.
The problem with closing early sometimes when you have no customers is that then no one knows for sure when you'll be open and people will be less inclined to make an effort to go to your place with the uncertainty about whether you'll be open.

I walked past the Wall at about 10 am today. Doors wide open, tables and chairs outside. Staff to be seen. I hope it does well.

I went to the Wall before, but I left because there was only one other customer in there.Miguelito wrote:So did you go to The Wall instead?gavinmac wrote:Tried to go to Howie Bar (the original one) last night at 1:30 a.m. It was closed. It's a nice space. Much bigger than old Howie Bar. I like the Wall and am therefore no longer outraged about the trade dress infringement.Nasty Canasta wrote:^
Ah, thanks, I did Google it but got zip.

Went to The Wall last night probably around 1am. It was alright, yep, lots of space, so on a busy night it would probably be good fun. Not a bad vibe, better than Howie Bar, I reckon.gavinmac wrote:It's a nice space. Much bigger than old Howie Bar. Howie seems to have aged a bit since I last saw him some years back.

That's Sar! Quite the booze hound. Also quite a good guy to know if you need some skulls of obnoxious, fat barangs rattled around.gavinmac wrote:Did Howie Bar have a guy who looked just like this working there for years?

I stopped into the old Howie Bar last night. 2 - 2:30 a.m., which used to be prime time for Howie Bar.
Very depressing. I was the only customer, half of the staff was WAY too happy to see me. The other half of staff were literally sleeping with their heads on tables or on the bar top.
Howie Bar has now been supplanted by the Wall, where most of the ex-Howie staff now work and where the late night degenerate drinkers now hang out.

Oh, one other comment about the old Howie Bar. I went in and bought a beer and bought one of the staff girls I know a drink. No discussion at all about what drink she'd have, she didn't say "Can I have a B-52" or anything like that. I'm wise to that game.
Anyway, I get the bill and her lady drink is $4. I ask why. Staff says all lady drinks are $4 unless the lady decides to have beer.
I, doing my best Larry David routine, told them politely, "Maybe this why you have no customers."

The Wall (also called The Wall Howie) is now for sale. This is your chance to pay $50,000 for a bar and presumably have the seller open up a new bar around the corner in a few months and steal all your staff and customers.
