For all you would-be bar owners...
Ah yes, I now remember it was Gladiator bar. Okay, so at this stage the current owner got a good deal, in a way a little like the old story of the man who jumped from the 20th floor of a building and he's just passing the 12th floor, and still feels good.

Fair enough, but I tend to drink a few beers an hour and paying for them individually is a trudge.bipolar bear wrote:I'm pretty far removed from the type of person who has one drink a night. The only time I can remember being overcharged was when I reluctantly went to 51 st a couple of years back with Horace and Mac, to some godawful shit-hole dog-hostess bar called Milk or something. I think we were there about an hour and the bill came to $100, just drinking beer and buying a handful of beers for the staff. Stupidest thing about it was that two of us stayed another 1/2 hour after that bill and got stuck for another $30.

Fucking hell, how did they manage to stick you with a bill that high? What were they charging, about $7 a beer.Lucky Lucan wrote:Fair enough, but I tend to drink a few beers an hour and paying for them individually is a trudge.bipolar bear wrote: I'm pretty far removed from the type of person who has one drink a night. That's one of the reasons establishments/businesses want you running a tab, rather than PAYG - as long as they get the bill paid. Most people spend more money if they are not handing over cash for every transaction.phat kunthea wrote:I find it strange when I pay as I drink I tend to spend less than paying all together at the end.
As I mentioned above, it's also one of the reasons I don't do it. I often consume quite a lot when I go out and find what I have in my pocket is a better meter and brake mechanism than common sense and willpower.
Most of these scumbags will do anything to sell a 50 cent beer. They must be living like vermin and trying to support whatever habits they have.
Pitiful to watch. I feel like taking a piss on some of the bars around here. If you want to grovel I'm happy to appease you.

if i run out of money ill just go to the ATM or tell them ill pay them tomorrow,
me paying for my drinks individually would make little to no difference at all

I think thats a neat little trick and might come in handy especially when you are in town a day or 2 here and there. Run up the bill then tell the bar owner ""Hi Sir, just gotta quickly pop down to an ATM around the corner, be back in 2."

The nonsense about beer/drinks tabs with them cups and the paper in them haunts me since 1987 when I was charged for 5 beers when I know I only drunk 4.
Since that time I walk myself to the bar and order it myself. 2 reasons, I get it quicker, and can see it opened without the fear it has something added.Im fearful of an open bottle giving to me by some wired eyed person I don't know.
Also, I don't like them wooden cups with paper on my table.~ and strangely always get the evil eye from Mamasan

That loss of 25c over a beer twenty years back must have been a terrible ordeal to go though. Do you usually drink in places that have wire eyed waitresses?Jep wrote:The nonsense about beer/drinks tabs with them cups and the paper in them haunts me since 1987 when I was charged for 5 beers when I know I only drunk 4.
