Maybe The Naked Tourist ? Osborne also wrote The Accidental Connoisseur which I think was a play on the movie title The Accidental Tourist.khmerhit wrote:I'm half way thru the Accidental tourist, (I think that's the title) by Lawrence Osborne, who writesa bout
the interface between cultures. He did a short novel about Cambodia, too, but I haven't been
able to get hold of it. Awesome writer, lives in BKK. His latest is Beautiful animals.
TAC is a series of interviews with wine producers. It's ok, better is his Bangkok Days with descriptions of some offbeat denizens and districts. I never knew there was a trattoria in the basement of Bumrungrad.
I found the Cambodian thriller Hunters in the Dark weak on atmosphere, plot, invention. Marginally better than his more recent novel The Forgiven (now being filmed) which is a non-story that goes nowhere.
Generally I find his journalism / travelogue better than his fiction.
