McDonald's coming to Cambodia?
I hope not!
Just saw a FB page McDonald's Cambodia , didn't look too official, but I wonder?

There's a precedent for that: Starbucks.PSD_Kiwi wrote:I hope not!

McDonalds/Burger King/KFC + Krispy Kreme + creamy/sugary Starbucks coffee + pizza + white rice + a phobia of walking anywhere + lack of dietary knowledge + short term view + lack of critical thinkingJoon wrote:There's a precedent for that: Starbucks.PSD_Kiwi wrote:I hope not!

you are going to see a sharp increase in the average weight of the population within 8 years.

It's okay, it's like cocaine in poor neighborhoods at home. People can only afford it at the weekend.
It will only affect the Khmer riche that lack self control, and to be frank, fuck them.
What's far more dangerous is those diabetes carts that get pushed around town loaded with Samurai and other cheap sugary junk.

It's already happening Violet. The difference here is, it's all the rich kids getting obese and soon-to-be diabetic, instead of the poor kids in the west. A bit like sugar when it was introduced into Europe. Only the wealthy's teeth were rotting as it was far too expensive for common folk, but with the added problem of genetic transference diabetes.violet wrote:McDonalds/Burger King/KFC + Krispy Kreme + creamy/sugary Starbucks coffee + pizza + white rice + a phobia of walking anywhere + lack of dietary knowledge + short term view + lack of critical thinkingJoon wrote:There's a precedent for that: Starbucks.PSD_Kiwi wrote:I hope not!

This is caused by the undernourished mother's DNA adapting to store more fat in the body's cells. The change in the DNA is passed along to the baby and subsequent generations it is believed. That is the results of one study I read that observed a higher proportion of diabetes in children who were born in the Netherlands after the Nazis caused starvation amongst the population from 1944-45 in The Hunger Winter.

This is a problem all over the third world, especially in populations that high fat or even reasonably normal, by western standards, calorie intakes/diets have been introduced.

yeah, good point you both make about the rich kids.
Perhaps that will lead to fatness being valued (like in some Polynesian countries), due to it being a sign of wealth.
