Euro 2016
I didn't find another recent thread on this, so figured I would start one for discussion, and to share places that will be showing the matches. First match will be Saturday, 2:00 AM local time (so late Friday night early Sat morning), France v Romania, and then a pretty busy schedule of 2 to 3 matches per day.
Groups and Schedules can be found here.
Where will people be watching?
Also, pretty interesting time for France to be hosting. Between the floods, terrorism threats, migrant issues (Calais), certainly is not ideal.

I doubt I will be watching as I'm just not that interested.
However, I have pulled France out of the hat in the Shanghai Bar sweep stake, so will be taking a passive interest in their progress.

I'll be following it; it's England's best chance to do well in a major tournament for decades. I'll watch most of the games at home (they're on too late), but will make an exception for the England games, especially the England v Wales next Thursday which is taking place in the afternoon in France. Most of the main sports oriented bars will be showing it live.
One point Miguelito. Are you sure the first game is 2am Cambodian time? Your link says it starts at 8pm Paris time. I think they are only five hours behind at the moment, so kick-off here will be a more manageable 1am.

Prepared to eat my words, but you are surely having a giraffe?scobienz wrote:I'll be following it; it's England's best chance to do well in a major tournament for decades.
No decent central defenders, wedging Rooney into a team at the expense of everyone else's natural position, a bunch of injury concerns (how the hell is Wilshere in the squad based on 'form' - he played half a game the whole season, and no, he's not Messi/Ronaldo ...), no plan 'B' striking option (Carroll) for the usual dull fest defensive tactics at international level.
A miracle if they exit the group, I think the only hope is if Rooney is benched and Roy goes with 4-4-2 with Vardy & Kane up front. We may ship a few goals, but I think this England squad is best set up to try to score more than the opposition than to defend, Totteringham Hot Spud style, and they've not had a bad season.
Fingers crossed as always, but look at a Euro '96 team pic - look at those players man for man vs the current batch ...

It's the triumph of hope over experience, Spigzy. I say the same thing before every big tournament. One day I'll get it right. The laws of averages etc etc.
I agree with your comment on Rooney being a waste of a place, although I'm loathe to take football commentary from a fucking Hammer seriously

It's a bit misleading, I think. I believe that as it's the opening match it kicks off at 9pm local time, due to the opening ceremony beforehand.scobienz wrote:One point Miguelito. Kick-off is indeed 9pm Parisian time. The times listed at the BBC website (linked in first post) are all UK time, hence the disparityMiguelito wrote:It's a bit misleading, I think. I believe that as it's the opening match it kicks off at 9pm local time, due to the opening ceremony beforehand.

Hah, of course I still hope too - but seriously, this Hammer finished top of the country fantasy footy league & sub-900 in the world, I know my shit!scobienz wrote:.. although I'm loathe to take football commentary from a fucking Hammer seriously
Alright it was a lucky season, but still
More seriously, why isn't there a new version of '3-lions' ... 50 years of hurt surely not too hard for the boys to re-record? Certainly beat the official "We're in this together" by Simply (f'in awful) Red?

I'll be cheering on ABE as always, just adjusting my body clock for nighttime viewing and daytime sleeping. Would like to see Northern Ireland get a few results, fantastic achievement so far when you consider which clubs their squad members come from.

And the best banners
Decent Excel template for tracking fixtures, kick off times, etc. Set clock to Bangkok & you're good to see what ungodly hour you need to head over to a sports bar [Score Bar showing all fixtures according to their FB update]
