They seem to be cleaning up St 51 quite a bit. A brand new hotel across from GSM, a library cafe next door with books to browse through and a relatively new restaurant opposite Shanghai bar on the corner of St 51 and St 172.
It is called Mr Mediterranean and owing to me working in the area for the last week, I have been eating there quite often. It used to be the old pancake place and it has undergone a complete and obviously expensive renovation. The food is very good...large portions and considerably cheaper than Riverside prices. Mediterranean (Turkish) fare...Lamb Pides with spinach, cheese etc, beef stroganoff pizzas, hummus, tzatziki amongst the dips...open air BBQ where your meat is cooked as you watch. I notice a lot of people not being able to eat all their meals as the portions really are quite large. The beer and all drinks are surprisingly inexpensive as well. The beef or lamb isn't from Cambodia either (Aust or NZ) so you dont get lockjaw chewing on it.
Best of all in my opinion...the place is spotlessly clean and hygienic. I like being able to see in the kitchen while your meal is being cooked. Tony the owner is always very welcoming, seems to sit with quite a few of the customers for a quick chat and does a great job of keeping out the riff raff that occasionally wander by. I saw him offer a bedraggled Khmer free take-away food...the Khmer turned him down...he wanted a dollar instead. Western run...all western chefs...open till late...it sure as hell beats some of the lottery food I've risked once upon a time on St 51. Good reality TV also...seeing as it is open air...you get to see all the St 51 antics from a edible distance. Thumbs up from me.

It's a recommendation. Sounds good too.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

RobW and I strolled past a couple of weeks and paused to look at the menu and food, it all looked pretty good. Although having already eaten we did not stop, but continued on with our perambulations to the target hostelry for our required evening libations.

Very good food cooked by Turkish chefs, it is really worth to give it a try. Turkish pides and pizzas are delicious and l also liked Turkish Kebabs too. Mr Mediterranean is easy to find, location is on street 51 next to Pontoon.
