I do think English style Indian does have its own unique taste, I suppose with nearly all the Indian restaurants in UK being owned by Bangladeshis and adjusting to our palettes (our lack of) that explains it to some degree.Spigzy wrote: Sher-e-Punjab st.130 or Flavours of India st.63 I'd put mid-range & most like an "English" style Indian (if you can call it that)
I would always prefer an authentic Indian meal but if that is not available then I try to go for an English take on it, we do have the best Indian food outside of the sub-continent
Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions, seems I have quite a list to work through.
Any sell Cobra/Kingfisher? I find the overly gassy Cambodia beers to be a bad combo
Surprised no one has mentioned East India on Bank Street.
I agree about there being a change at sheree punjab. The quality seems fine still, but the portions have become smaller. I wish they would just increase the price instead. I don't think it has changed hands.

Is the grotty, but very cheap Indian place still open in what's left of the lakeside slum?
That place is pretty 'authentic' Indian.

Whatever happen to Mount Everest that used to be opposite Mobitel?
My posts are just jokes, maybe they're rude, offensive, and politically incorrect. They're not my opinion, viewpoint, idea, or judgement, but they're just fucking jokes so lighten up.

There's a Mount Everest on 294 that's been around forever, it's ok, I go there occasionally.Garry Crabtree wrote:Whatever happen to Mount Everest that used to be opposite Mobitel?
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.

Used to be my go-to place but last time I was disappointed. As you mentioned, the portions have become smaller (I found about 2 pieces of meat in my curry), and my bread was cold. I also thought it did not taste as good as it is used to.slavedog wrote:Surprised no one has mentioned East India on Bank Street.

I wanted a change from sheer-e-Punjab for the reasons above so this evening I gave a try to PP India on riverside, not far from the FCC. I am normally a bit reluctant to try places on the Riverside because I consider them as potential tourist traps, but that fear was entirely misplaced. Their decor is all but flashy, rather basic actually,, nothing touristy there.
I had lamb with spinach, pilau rice and a butter roti. Efficient, attentive service. The food was so good I was surprised, some of the best Indian I ever ate, with portions like they used to give at sheer_e-Punjab before they started cutting corners. They certainly gained a regular today.

Like 99% of Indian restaurants in the Kingdom then;-)Their decor is all but flashy, rather basic actually,, nothing touristy there.
One of the reasons my favorite in Temple Town is Dakshin's is because apart from great food, the owner has actually made the place like a restaurant. Pretty much all the other Indian restaurants in Siem Reap are soulless joints that look like a waiting room of the National Rail Service with the obligatory picture of the Taj Mahal and an endless loop of Bollywood music.

Flavours of India
In that order. Everest is a booze free zone, I think.
