They want you to wear your sunglasses inside - gives it that Hollywood ambiance.
I am surprised P-Y C did not use his mythical Legion skills and kick arse.

Any mention of the price disparity? Is it just the service charge/VAT thing, or are people being charged $10 for an item listed at $2?
Kind of moot, because I feel put off by these cross-cultural merger things

One of the first things I noticed about Cambodia, when I arrived 14 years ago, was the Khmer preference for very bright, fluorescent lighting in their bars and restaurants; a total opposite to the Philippines, where they favour subdued, romantic type night venues.
I suspect the HRC owners are aware of this preference and have designed to suit local tastes. They seem to be taking a compromising attitude to complaints from foreigners.

I haven't been, so this is speculation, but I'm guessing people are surprised to see that service charge, VAT, and the Lighting Tax have been added. Very fee places include all three (such as the Raffle and Sofitel), but legally they need to collect at least the VAT and Lighting (unless, of course, they made those inclusive, but then people would ridicule their general pricing), and as in international company I would think that they would as well.son of vladimir wrote:Any mention of the price disparity? Well it is probably a hefty markup on the bill if lighting tax is included and it is as bright as they say

Haha, I forgot the theme of this thread when I wrote.tombraider wrote:Well it is probably a hefty markup on the bill if lighting tax is included is it is a bright as they say
But seriously, "the Public Lighting Tax is an indirect tax with the rate of 3% to be imposed on all alcoholic drinks and cigarettes. The person who supplies these products is responsible for the payment of this tax to the tax administration by the 20th of the month following the month that the supplies are made." (Lighting Tax)
So technically, every beer that you buy anywhere should have a 3% lighting tax on it, unless it is inclusive in the price (and if someone is selling a .50 cent beer inclusive of all the taxes, I'm pretty sure they'd be selling for a loss).
