You forgot the cheap, angry TEFLers. Best to avoid them at all costs.maven wrote:But...you also want the man-bunned, elephant-panted hipsters and starry-eyed NGO types kept at arm's length, and dislike beggars interrupting your nosh
"The final straw actually involved my mortal enemy vladimir, who you may or may not know is an insufferable, overposting asshat."
Correct. Since I got around to spending a bit of money on the house - decent furniture, well equipped kitchen, huge fridge and chest freezer for storage - I can hardly be bothered to go out anymore. Most places disappoint or annoy me in one way or another, and the traffic is such a disaster it just ain't worth it, at least not more than once or twice a week.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:Home

Holy crap!!!! That is the first weapon I eva learned to use in my life. The good book. Not a lot of people even know the devistation you can cause with a book. Wow. Impressed me, unless you were talkin about reading or something.rgrowden wrote:Go where you want, but wear earplugs and carry a book.

Elly's gets my vote, they will get a few TEFLers in but they are the good kind of TEFLers.

Yeah, this. I don't get bothered by anything much while I'm out, and even less so at home. There are lots of nice places around, and sometimes people you wouldn't always associate with are around. I like meeting all-sorts, and I don't mind ignoring people either. If you stay in the center of town you'll always be bothered by tuk-tuks and hawkers and amputated meth loonies or whatever but there's a whole world outside of that. I had to spend a few months around that area last year and found it weird myself though. Where I live is a lot quieter.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote:Home
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
I like to go out a few times a week. People watching is a pastime, just don’t come and talk to me.

The Lost Room has excellent food and service, and is generally not very busy at all, let alone with hipsters.
Is it the mere site of a manbun that sends shivers up everyone's spines, or having to interact with a bearded bartender, or what? Where's the line?
