Yes, one of the reasons our decor is a bit lacking is because we want to keep the prices down for delivery and take-away orders. We're slowly sprucing the place up a bit but it is never going to rival restaurants that spent $20,000+ in furniture and fittings and need to recoup that in profits.Edwardo wrote:Good prices.
I also want to announce that we have a couple of special items available while the supply lasts. A recent catering event got Mrs. Alamo in a grilling mood. When the chicken at the wholesale market this morning looked particularly good, that was all the reason she needed to add two new entrees:
- Chicken wings in a sauce that is both sweet and tangy. These have been a personal favorite of mine ever since last November at Sharkey Bar when she asked me to try out her new experimental sauce.
- Chicken, capsicum, onion, and cherry tomato skewers. They look pretty much like the ones you see everywhere but are far more tender than most and have a really nice black-pepper glaze on them to add some zest.
Great food for dine-in, delivery, or take-away. Call 085 540 525.

I had both for lunch and give them two thumbs way up! Like all of our entrees, they are come with either fries or a side salad for $5.75, or a small order of Crockett's croquettes for $6.75. The lunch special and free drink special DO still apply (though not in combination, of course).

But I don’t quite understand an entree being served with a side.
Is it a meal by itself or is it an entree (starter)?

In America--and this is an American food restaurant, since Texas has been part of the USA for 170+ years--"entree" means the same as "main course."ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: Both sound tasty.

in the process of fucking off to the land of honey and free beer
Even though the French won the war of independence for them they have forgotten the debt they owe them and dropped the original meaning of entrée,which was a dish served before the main course of a meal, and subverted it to mean the main course, despite the original French meaning.ផោមក្លិនស្អុយ wrote: But I don’t quite understand an entree being served with a side.

"This name is a sort of historical accident. Originally there were far more courses than just starters/appetizers, main course, and dessert. There have been a large variety of traditions, but a reasonably common meal structure was to have small appetizers (hors d'oeuvres), more substantial ones bordering on things you'd see as side dishes or half a main course now (entrées), then a large meat dish (plat principal, possibly). In North America the separate large meat dish disappeared from tradition over time, and effectively was folded into the entrées, and that name was retained for the main course."
"Similar things happened elsewhere, of course - most people don't have four course meals all the time - but the resulting name is essentially unique to American English. In the rest of the English speaking world, the original terms largely remained." https://cooking.stackexchange.com/quest ... -vs-entree

I suppose ‘dessert’ means ‘soup course’ in Americanese?

Actually, I am (or was) lower middle class. But at least I am educated well enough to be able to punctuate a sentence.

Seriously, I'll try to remember to refer to them as main courses from now on, instead of entrees. The last thing I want to do is confuse someone who is considering eating our food.
Almost completely off topic, but one thing that I really wish Americans HAD adopted is putting the punctuation outside quote marks in most cases. They were only put inside to protect the fragile small type bits used in punctuation marks during the early days of typesetting. The Brits sensibly changed it back during the period shortly after WWI when they were reassessing many things, but the Americans stubbornly continued. Sometimes I have to wonder what my ancestors were thinking.

This would have to be a K440 record,
The thread survived 4 pages before it got derailed onto a topic that has nothing to do with the OP's original topic.
Please correct my punctuation if required.
I wrote "OP's " but should I of written "OPs' "
But lets get back on topic about food, as we all know it's one of my favorite subjects.

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.
