While they last: pork ribs and corn only $6.75. Guest chef Tim is smoking and grilling some of the best ribs you have ever tasted. A half rack with corn on the cob is only $6.75. If you loved Tim's ribs at Reef Resort in Sihanoukville, now is your chance to get them again. Available Monday, March 5 until they are all gone.
Please note that our previously announced free drink and lunch specials are not valid for the ribs, although they are still good for our other main course items. The ribs are also not on the menu for any of the online services, but I believe that Your Phnom Penh (https://www.yourphnompenh.com/order/food/alamo-cafe) can still handle the order--they might be a bit confused when they call us the first time, but they seem pretty sharp.

That plate looks a little sad - couldn't it at least be a whole cob of corn? They are like 30c each cooked!

I'm not sure where you buy your corn, but I'd be interested to know. The ones we bought cost considerably more than that raw at the wholesale price. They are pretty large ears, so I think the size was about right for most people. It is a moot point for now, as we are sold out and the new batch of ribs comes with either fries or a side salad, like the rest of our main courses.Cam-pooh-cheer wrote:That plate looks a little sad - couldn't it at least be a whole cob of corn? Yep. we actually discovered corn cheaper at the market nearest the restaurant. The chief cook and bottle washer had been buying corn for years from the same seller and did not realize that she was no longer charging a competitive price. That's quite unusual, as she is normally very much on top of pricing. However, we'll probably still sell the half cobs when we offer them if they are the same size as the previous ones, simply because it is already more food than roughly half the purchasers were able to eat in one sitting.

Hey, I just wanted to quickly mention that we have ribs again, but the supply is extremely limited as we've sold over half of them already. They've been selling really well, so we're thinking about making this a weekly thing. It will always be "while available," as buying, trimming, brining, smoking, and then grilling takes far too long to do it every time the supply runs low, but we're thinking we may start having a new batch prepared every weekend and ready to go on Monday mornings. We also have fresh fruit slushes/freezes and smoothies available for dine-in or take-away, and we're experimenting with frappacinos. We might be willing to deliver them along with a food order if you live nearby, but I can't imagine them traveling very well.

Tried this place the other day and have to say that it was disappointing.
5.75 for a very meagre quesadilla. I can go to Dos Besos and be absolutely stuffed for that. Or a little bit more I can go to Luigi's new pizza place near Russian mkt and roll out the door.
Alamo? I left hungry.
Sorry man, but you wanna be competitive then you got to reduce your prices or make the dishes special. After all it's not the most salubrious of joints either.

What did it look like? Choice of filling? The ones at Viva are $6 and contain either chicken, beef or shrimp.Just Robbed wrote:Tried this place the other day and have to say that it was disappointing.

Sorry that you did not have a good experience. We don't claim to give extremely large portions, but we don't want people going hungry, either, and it is quite possible that I would agree with you. I learned yesterday that for a few days we were out of the usual size of tortilla we use for quesadillas, and when substituting for the ones we did have, we did not do a very good job of ensuring that the portions were equal. If you do decide to give us another try, or if anyone else reading this had the same experience, please let me know and I'll try to ensure that you get an extra large portion of whatever you are ordering.Just Robbed wrote:Tried this place the other day and have to say that it was disappointing.

I seem to remember Dos Besos being more expensive than us, except at lunch when the portions are reduced 40%. However, I have always had very good food there and always felt it was good value.

Chicken only. Beef quesadillas just are not very popular and we don't serve shrimp, although we would certainly consider doing so when we get more refrigeration. You should stop by if you ever get over this way. It would be good to catch up and have a beer.Mèo Đen wrote:What did it look like? Choice of filling? I owned a restaurant, later a bakery, and was executive chef at a popular place back in the US. It's gotta be the craziest, worst business in the world, except for one thing - the people that work in food service. They made it worthwhile.
I like what you're doing with this board, Alamo owner. Always interesting to see the issues with your customers, and your explanations. Very good.
