I can report on Atlas.drwahwah wrote:Fat Passion , Lost Room , Miam , De Map, Kinin, Babylon, Tumkratoei , Nesat Seafood House, Pepe Bistro, Aroma, Atlas, Doors
I had a cracking burger there last week. A somewhat unusual waldorf burger and fries. Extremely tasty and a few options on the menu which I would order, very attentive service and a nice-ish ambiance.
Cost about 7 or 8 $ for the burger, wasn’t drinking so didn’t take note of drinks options.
I’d go back.

Violet, which Greek place?
Some other good ideas thus far. I've been to Miam, but only for moules frites -- actually planning on checking out their lunch today. Been hearing lots of great things about Atlas. Lost Room is one of my favorites in the city, although I admittedly don't patronize it as much as I should (plus, they have nice cocktails).
Yes, this is on my to-do list. After an epic run to make it through the Phnom Penh Post Cheap Eats Guide last year, I've been meaning to write up one of my own. Their list this past year was a little single sided on certain items (like 8 chicken and rice dishes).Lucky Lucan wrote:I'd like a cheap eats thread, places to eat a quick lunch for example rather than gorge yourself of an evening. I might even set it up myself.GMJS-440 wrote:Do a TEFLer/Backpacker tour of Cheap Eats places.
Find a few popular street stalls, local haunts.
Bourdain style in honor of the man.

Named above Cafe ApCha.
Considering it's the only place in town offering an extensive menu of popular Greek foods it's worthy of support imho.
I have been before, and am going again to gain an overall opinion of what is on offer now they have had time to settle into their menu.

Nasat Seafood -
My short review Better seafood restaurant than Kep with very reasonable prices
for proper review here (which I agree with )

They're always consistent with me. The Riverside location is best for dinners.violet wrote:More than one location? Which one?

I like the riverside location for lunch, and normally bring out of town visitors there for a great meal and good view.Alexandra wrote:They're always consistent with me. The Riverside location is best for dinners.violet wrote:More than one location? Which one?
I'll also go to the one out at the PP SEZ if I'm out that way, as it's the only decent place to eat there.

I hit that up on my Cheap Eats quest. It is indeed a nice small place, open air, and there were a few French-Khmers in there while I visited, so between that and the fact that they have pastis makes me think it must be a French-Khmer owner. I had the 10 oysters for $3 (we actually ordered 20 for $5.50), which to be honest made me a little skeptical at first, but the sauce was great. From the Post:drwahwah wrote:Nasat Seafood -

Found some pictures:A plate of 10 oysters enjoyed in a cosy, plant-filled restaurant while jazz music floats out from behind the bar feels like an indulgence. But at Russian Market’s Nesat, which opened in May this year and has quickly built up a loyal clientele, it will only set you back $3. Served with salad, crispy fried onion and sweet chilli sauce, customers can pick between ice-cold or barbecued oysters. The seafood is transported from Kep daily and tastes certifiably fresh. Dishes such as the creamy spaghetti pastis with your choice of seafood will also get you back change on a $5 bill.

Yes I've been a couple of times I think it's fairly good food although it is only chicken and pork a lamb option would be nice and the lady who owns it with her Greek husband is very nice. The gyros are good.
