Indian Restaurant
Indian Restaurant
Could someone recommend a good Indian restaurant, one that is not too expensive and reasonably close to the Riverside. I should also add that I am vegetarian.
Many thanks. I have looked on Google maps already and can see that quite a few have sprung up in recent years but I haven't been to any of them and am looking for personal recommendations more than anything else.
Many thanks.

Best veggie ones, for me, are Taste Budz, Dosa Corner and Kathmandu Kitchen.
They may also sell flesh.

This is my go to for a regular & as far as Riverside goes this would absolutely be it.
Top end/veggie options you better order from Shakti Shiva on st.63 (nowhere near Riverside) - but I found lately ordering via Nham24 also price wise seems to have come down a bit from the ol' days.

I know street 63 very well, stayed on it many times. So you reckon this place is pretty good foodwise and cost wise?
I recently went a couple of times to a fairly new Indian restaurant that I'd never heard of before.
I was blown away by how good the food was, with a few dishes I had never seen anywhere else. I must have tried over 15 Indians in town and this is the best. Prices are ok.

I'M not sure if you are aware of this but along with mushy peas...
"You see many people are unaware that many of the classic curries, including the chicken tikka masala, balti, jalfrezi, madras and chicken vindaloo, were made in Britain"
The best Indian food is to be found in the British Isles imo.
I do miss it.

The Indian restaurants in South-East Asia are absolutely rank, the UK has literally a million times better even if 95% of them are Bengali/Bangladeshi owned?spitthedog wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:47 amLogos, logos wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:13 amI recently went a couple of times to a fairly new Indian restaurant that I'd never heard of before.

The curries in SEA are absolutely pathetic just some limp gravy with no spices whatsoever spooned over everything,a shame really as the rice and naans are generally UK grade but what a disappointment when the first mouthful goes in!

Actually Vindaloo comes from Goa,India a previously Portuguese colony there’s a common misconception that the aloo is Hindi for potatoes and must be added?spitthedog wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:47 amLogos, logos wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:13 amI recently went a couple of times to a fairly new Indian restaurant that I'd never heard of before.

The truth is that it comes from the Portuguese “Vin e Alho” meaning wine most likely red wine vinegar and garlic.

And Madras curry originated in Madras, now Chennai. Jalfrezi originated in Bengal.Phnom Penh Trader wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 8:16 amActually Vindaloo comes from Goa,India a previously Portuguese colony there’s a common misconception that the aloo is Hindi for potatoes and must be added?spitthedog wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:47 amLogos, logos wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:13 amI recently went a couple of times to a fairly new Indian restaurant that I'd never heard of before.

Semi-fair - there are a lot of Nepalese chefs here who make curry very differently from those in the UK, and I also certainly prefer the latter style, and it also tends to be much closer to those found in India also. That said, when faced with SE Asian curries, versus a 6/10 Indian, I'd take the 6/10 Indian most of the time (Exception for beef saraman, which of course a Hindu could never cook!)Phnom Penh Trader wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 8:07 amThe Indian restaurants in South-East Asia are absolutely rank, the UK has literally a million times better even if 95% of them are Bengali/Bangladeshi owned?spitthedog wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:47 amLogos, logos wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:13 amI recently went a couple of times to a fairly new Indian restaurant that I'd never heard of before.

So you vouch for this place and reckon its well worth a visit. It's not too far from where I am staying, so I can check it out. Thanks for the heads up.logos wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 2:13 amI recently went a couple of times to a fairly new Indian restaurant that I'd never heard of before.

The limited Bengalese cooked Indian food i've had in Oi'land has tended to be abit sweet.
The typical superb curry we'd get in the UK, would be ;
Rogan josh, saag aloo, maybe a chicken korma, garlic naan, and pilau rice.
All fantastically rich and no doubt unhealthy.
It's like the British version is a twist on Indian food.
