Hi all, sorry to post a serious topic but you'll see why.
Cambodia as ever is full of new experiences and yesterday i saw my first ever dead person - a motodop lying dead on the road with the PPPD diverting traffic around his brains.
Numrous threads have been started in the past saying stuff like "helmets are no good because they block your peripheral vision, blah blah blah" etc. Hopefully this will prove my arguement that, a) any helmet is better than none, and b) Khmers do not drive better because they have unobscured peripheral vision.
So please think twice if you do not wear a crash helmet. $20 is not really that much for a barrang is it?

I agree 100%, although I do tend to leave it at home when I'm on the piss, which is pretty stupid as it is also the time I probably need it most, all be it a time of night when I'm more likely to hit the tarmac than the bullbars of a Land Cruiser.
On top of that I would get a decent helmet, these ones here are better than nothing but would probably only be the difference between death and brain damage.
I bought a new helmet back with me from my last trip back to the U.K, which would of cost me $200 if my brother wasn't a motorbike mechanic and a ''Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.'' kind of a chap.
If you get a decent one they are far less stuffy, far more comfortable and far more likely to save your life then the crap on offer over here.

Yup, western standard helemts are far safer (i brought one with me), but sadly at $250 i wont let any grubby handed secuirty guard at Heart look after it and drop it so that it is broken and no longer safe. Hence a cheap $30 Index is useful for nighttime expeditions where hopefully it will still save a few braincells in a crash. Eating through a straw aint that bad.
