OML
A big warehouse owned by the RCAF blew up in Battambang in the early 2000's just before a large inventory was taken, taking out a lot of stocks of weapons....oddly enough, similar weapons ended up in Sri Lanka in the years prior. Not that I noticed or anything.
Which the reason it's such a pain in the ass for Cambodians to get Sri Lanka visas and Sri Lankans to come here...
Pedrazo - I DISOWN that quotation. It is NOT from me. NOW quote your source or be branded a fraud.

That quote was actually from Felgerkarb. Not sure why it shows up as from you. It's on page 21 (previous page) of this thread towards the bottom.
Whether or not armory explosion story is true I think it's publicly established that the Tamil Tigers sourced weapons from Cambodia in the 90s and early 2000s.

It's true, it was reported on here at the time, I think by Vox who was nearby when it happened.Pedrazo wrote:That quote was actually from Felgerkarb. Not sure why it shows up as from you. It's on page 21 (previous page) of this thread towards the bottom.

Thank you for correcting that, Pedrazo.
Personally I am sceptical about the story.
Weapons armouries very seldom if ever blow up.
It is munitions magazines/ammo dumps that blow up regularly and after which the ammo/munitions are considered unsafe to use and are usually destroyed in situ as UXO with a small demolition charge.

There is no need to be so dramatic.

Correct. He was living in BB at the time, I spoke with him shortly after it had happened and he kindly checked in with some of my former in-laws whom lived nearby to see that they were okay.Lucky Lucan wrote:It's true, it was reported on here at the time, I think by Vox who was nearby when it happened.Pedrazo wrote:That quote was actually from Felgerkarb. Meh. Something witty.

I bought a full kilo of it in a big shopping bag at Kratie market for 2 dollars in 2001.pharmacambodia wrote:Felgerkarb wrote:A lot of bullshit in that book. But, I used to see weed in Russian Market in 1990 at a buck a kilo. Ditch weed, but still weed.
2008 it was only available from one of the tobacco women there, the other stopped selling it.
The price was unfortunately much higher than before. Blame the dolphins.
The price has skyrocketed since then, but the quality remains the same.Ditch weed.

Of course they can't grow opium, it isn't the right climate. As for the quality of weed being the same as the bush weed that was around 15 years ago, maybe you need a better suppliers?

I always thought it was more of a lack of altitude and/or daily thermal variation problem than know how even if I doubt locals take off the wrong sex plants as they should.Jep wrote:I bought a full kilo of it in a big shopping bag at Kratie market for 2 dollars in 2001.pharmacambodia wrote:Felgerkarb wrote:A lot of bullshit in that book. Rubbish. Opium poppy can grow in a wide range of climates.
Even 14.000 miles south of the GT.

Given that the world's largest crop of LEGAL opium poppies is grown in Tasmania, Australia, it is a very climate tolerant poppy indeed.
