Unlike Laos, Cambodia was not systematically sprayed. There was likely some mist drift into Cambodia as areas close to the border in Vietnam were sprayed. The one recorded direct spraying of herbicides in Cambodia took place from April 18–May 2, 1969, when 173,000 acres of French and Cambodian rubber plantations in Kampong Cham Province in Cambodia were sprayed. 24,000 of these acres were seriously damaged. The spraying took place at night and it was unclear who carried out the spraying, but it was not believed to be by the US Air Force. Evidence points to CIA and Air America aircraft. In 1969, the Cambodian government filed a claim for $12.2 million in damages. Though the US never admitted they were responsible, they made plans to pay the claim to promote “broader interests.” Henry Kissinger, at the time the National Security Advisor, attempted to delay paying the claim until FY1972, writing “Every effort should be made to avoid the necessity for a special budgetary request to provide funds to pay this claim.”
Anecdotal reports from residents of Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri Provinces in Northeast Cambodia point to the possiblity that herbicides were sprayed in these regions as well during the war. More research is needed to confirm these reports.

The Ho Chi Minh Trail was sprayed in eastern Cambodia. Period. The area was still recovering in the late 80s and 1990 as I was along the eastern border then. Many residents claimed there were ghosts and demons in the area that made their livestock sick.

I've always wondered if Agent Orange was the culprit for the seemingly common occurrence of strange deformities in babies seen here. More times than I would like to remember I have seen women carrying babies with huge, monstrosity sized heads or babies with tiny pinheads and all sorts of deformities around the country. Usually with a huge group of people around them taking photos. On a hunch I googled 'Agent Orange babies" and it sure seemed to fit the bill.
Well they used it in the USA, NZ Thailand and Japan among many others so it wouldn't surprise me. (The Brits used it in Malaya)
Amazing that something so toxic was sprayed around with wild abandonment! But then it took us years to relalise Asbestos was pretty bad shizzle.
Agent Orange was not actualy orange (It comes from the barrel colour). Disapointed a little as I expected this nasty orage spray stuck to the greenery for as far as the eye can see.

I was not aware of any Ho Chi Minh trail in Cambodia but only of the Sihanouk trail running from both Ratanakiri and Sihanoukville province to VN...

I've only heard that it was used in forested border areas and trails in Ratanakiri/ Mondulkiri as above. That's in contrast with the bombing campaigns which spread far beyond those areas.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Agent orange(2,4,5-Trichlorophenoxyacetic acid)is probably still being produced as it is an effective defoliant. The problem was the toxic by-product dioxin in the manufacture . Thousands of tons of the stuff were produced in NZ and shipped to the Philippines then transported to US airbases in Vietnam for the spraying campaigns.YaTingPom wrote:Amazing that something so toxic was sprayed around with wild abandonment! The herbicide had been in production for some time before it was found to be contaminated with the by-product . Unfortunately, steps to remedy the problem were not immediate, which led to many more tons of the affected product to be made and used locally and exported.
NZ has the highest exposure rate, 2nd only to Vietnam. I have known people who used it on farms when kids, saying they would have squirt fights with the stuff.

Nasty.
It's only Agent Orange if mixed equally with 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, which is the oldest herbicide ever and still being used today.
They found some barrels of AO when digging up Hau Hin airport.

They had big clean ups at the airbase sites in Vietnam, Nha Trang particularly affected.
The herbicides are reasonably 'safe' to humans, it was the dioxin that was extremely harmful; in the top 10 of harmful substances. The crime was to delay modifying production that would eliminate the contamination. The IWD plant in NZ was operating in a city suburb of low cost housing. The whole suburb was contaminated. They even built a school next to it, high rates of post-generational birth defects and cancers.

Whatever the idiots want to call it to disassociate it from VN and create what I like to call propaganda space. It was a major supply line to the VC through "neutral" Cambodia that connected right into the HCM Trail from SNV. Weapon/supply shipments to the NVA traveled along it, thus the Americans bombed the fuck out of it and sprayed fucking poison all along it.Barang_doa_slae wrote:I was not aware of any Ho Chi Minh trail in Cambodia but only of the Sihanouk trail running from both Ratanakiri and Sihanoukville province to VN...
