The next time some ass posts a response to Khmer violence with a lame comment like "...but they're Buddhists. Aren't they suppose to be non-violent?" Please feel free to link here.

Why Are We Surprised When Buddhists Are Violent?
I’m surprised when Muslims, Sikhs, Christians and atheists are violent too.
They are talking about fundementalist - a small group of trouble makers. It’s not just Buddhists in Myanmar doing these things.

pew, pew, pew, pew!
85 of the 95 wars happening today are religion based. Those Burma Monks are wicked, as Mr. Ya stated.
Jesus wept.
Jesus wept.
What 95 wars are they then?
pew, pew, pew, pew!
out: have you noticed how you can delete your post made at night but not those made in the day. curious

The main ones, the other ones and the unreported village ones. All around the World.
I still wonder how the hell nobody knew what was happening in Cambodia 1975- 79.
I'm interested in this thread and will add my comments once the rush of blood to the head to poster's offended by this topic has ceased.
I respectfully ask responders to stop and think about the question and not attack/support from reflex defense action.
But please ponder this:
What part of the media suggested that Buddhists were anti violence ?
( this started 35- 45 years ago and has been ongoing since then in most of the media outlets. )
Has this possible false hood influenced your opinion of being a Buddist.
Why do you believe that Buddhists are anti Violence.
This could be a very interesting discussion.
Cheers

I refuse to go out with nothing more than a whimper followed by a small farting sound and a shit stain on my bed sheets..
Just thought I'd share that with you.

I think that part of it stems from a misunderstanding of different sects of Buddhism.scoffer wrote:I'm interested in this thread and will add my comments once the rush of blood to the head to poster's offended by this topic has ceased.

In pop culture I can think of a great example that might lead people to associate Buddhists with nonviolence - the movie Seven Years in Tibet (and the Tibet situation as a whole).
There's also the quaint image of Buddhist monks praying peacefully, abstaining from meat, etc. However, on the other side, the fact that Buddhists believe in reincarnation can be cited as a reason that allows them to be less empathetic with death in general, because it's not as sad when the person will just return in another form.

Historically speaking, the monotheistic religions have been responsible for more deaths than any other group. Satanists are amateurs, by comparison.
Judaism, Xtianity and Islam are all elitist, exclusive, and divisive and mention and in some cases, even advocate violent acts against non-believers.
Christianity has a somewhat softer approach than Judaism and Islam, but much of the imagery is still of a military nature.
Not sure about polytheistic religions, we need andyinasia to give his input, he studied comparative religions, iirc.
At the end of the day, the problem is usually with the subjective interpretation and political manipulation by an individual or his followers, not the original mission statement/text.

ירי ילדים והפצצת אזרחים דורש אומץ, כמו גם הטרדה מינית של עובדי ההוראה.
