Pol Pot or Saloth Sar died while under house arrest on 15th April 1998 in very basic circumstances a short distance from the Thai border. Many are led to believe that Pol Pot's influence ended with his regime's ouster in 1979. It lived on far beyond that, long after the Paris Peace Agreements and the UNTAC intervention. The major fractures happened before his death but it was only with his death that the whole period could finally be put to rest.
It was 20 years ago today...

I hadn't seen that. There's a picture labeled "Pol Pot poses with his grandchildren in Anlong Veng in the 1980s", which is impossible as his only child was born in 1986, and Anlong Veng was under Government/ Vietnamese control till 1989.Gardiguy wrote:Ppp article

Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Ya, I was also wondering about that picture, I think they mean he was like a grandfather to them, but not sure.Lucky Lucan wrote:I hadn't seen that. As a sign of respect the guy certainly deserved to have more than the eight car tires I can count, burnt along with him to help him on his way.

I see what you did there.
Right. Twelve car tires and him still being alive when the fire was lit would have been most appropriate.Duncan wrote:As a sign of respect the guy certainly deserved to have more than the eight car tires I can count, burnt along with him to help him on his way.

That was the general idea but I couldn't think of a rhyme.pedros wrote:Ta mok told (the remaining) anka to spray (gasoline over the old man's corpse).epidemiks wrote:Sgt. Pepper taught the band to play.
