New music video with footage from Cambodia in 1968
Hello,
My name is Izhar Ashdot and I’m an Israeli musician.
As a child, I lived in Cambodia between 1967-69, while my father worked in the Israeli embassy in Phnom Penh.
I’ve recently discovered many Super-8 film reels that my father shot in Cambodia, mainly documenting my family’s trips across the country.
My memories became so vivid from watching this footage. They inspired me to compose this musical piece, simply titled Cambodia.
I edited the music video for this track using the footage that my late father shot 50 years ago.
I hope you enjoy this.
Izhar

Hi Izash,
Many thanks for sharing that with us. There is some great footage from your dad there. Some of the shots in rural Cambodia show how little has changed in the countryside in 50 years.
I hope that you would consider uploading more of your father's films from that period.

What they said ^^
Very cool to see, and we’d love to see more. Maybe this has inspired you to travel back, and you could take new film and juxtapose them - some things are eerily similar, and some have evolved a lot.

Brilliant stuff, thanks.
Romantic Cambodia is dead and gone. It's with McKinley in the grave.
Cool.
Interesting to see PP flooding even back then.

I just showed it to some young (30 y/o) Cambodians and they really enjoyed it, and calling out each place they recognized (or thought they did), from Sisowath high school to Kompong Som.
They also had two funny reactions.
When the fishermen were shown, they said “Vietnamese. Is that still in Cambodia?”
When the flooding was shown, they laughed and said “still the same.”
They also had a moment of reflection, and commented on how it was just befor Lon Nol, and how at that point Cambodia was the nicest country in the region, but how that is not the case now.

Sort of related.

Wow, I'm overwhelmed by your responses! Thank you!
Do most of you live in Cambodia?
I haven't been back since we left in June 1969.
I have plenty more footage of Cambodia, including rare shots of Prince Sihanook at various occasions and the International Film Festival of 1968.
I hope to find the time and edit some of it and post it here.
Cheers,
Izhar
p.s. If anyone went to Lycée Decartes in 1967-69 and was in my class, or if you know somebody who did, please stand up!

the majority of our posters do indeed live in Cambodia, the sites main focus is to expats - although we do have plenty of regular posters who used to live here, or have a long term interest in Cambodia.
As mentioned by several people, we would love to see some more of the footage that you have.
Cheers
