One for the footy fans.
Yesterday the election was held to determine the new head of the Football Authority of Thailand, required because the long term holder of the post and member of the FIFA executive committee has been suspended due to corruption investigations. He a has a history so I'm not even giving him the benefit of the doubt.
By a unanimous vote the new chief is Police General Somyot ( long name), who recently retired as national police chief. He oversaw the Koh Tao case and awarded his own officers the several million baht reward fee for "solving" the Erawan Srine bombing in Bangkok. In his victory speech he made the following comments, " I am confident that our work will be clean, transparent, fair and open to scrutiny " and " I don't know much about football, but I have an 18 member team that represents clubs from across Thailand ".
What hope is there for reforming the world governing body when individual FA's are electing candidates such as this who I would say has the polar opposite of the qualities required to turn things around.
