Just to clarify I think this is a 30-day EXEMPTION stamp rather than EXTENSION stamp ie you can stay in the country for up to 30 days without needing to get a visa.
I will be crossing KK border next week and will let you know how many days I get.

it's the proof that they're seeing a decline in tourism from americans and europeans, notice how Australia and Russia and Korea are not in the list.
too little too late, i would rather go in Indonesia or vietnam than fueling the greedy thai tourism industry.

i don't see how this has anything to do with an increase or decrease in tourism
IN fact i really don't understand why they did it as when they started the 15 day exempt it was to try and stop those living an working in Thailand without the correct visas.
Europeans ( up 10%) nor the Americans (up 8.7%) arrivals are not on the decrease, ( only Scandinavian countries and the middle east dropped ) hitting 22 million this year, too bad the new arrivals ( Chinese and Russians making up over 60% of arrivals to Phuket ) they don't spend the $$ that tourists did 10 years ago

Malaysia has 25 million tourists and they claim to be the nr.1 tourist destination in SE Asia.
Visa : actually i'm in favor of even more draconian visa rules, let them screw the farangs even more, they deserve it.

exactly but that's the same logic they use in thailand, how many of their 20+ million "tourists" are really tourists ?Phuket2006 wrote:Probably half of those are Singaporeans/foreigners leaving Singapore for renewal of their visa an gas
they count as tourist arrivals anyone crossing the border for a visa run and anyone landing in airports even for a couple hours, it's BS.
I am pretty sure Russia and Korea have had 30-days thing for a while now, way before this new rule. Not sure about Australia (Australians are probably not Thailands big market since aussies prefer Bali)bikkhu wrote:it's the proof that they're seeing a decline in tourism from americans and europeans, notice how Australia and Russia and Korea are not in the list.

Confirmation that I got 30 days at the Koh Kong border using my UK passport.
Also it was the first time my luggage has ever been checked at the customs point.
A thorough "open everything" 5 minutes although with a polite smile.
Plus there were a lot more security checks going on. We were stopped 4 times at checkpoints on the minibus to Trat.

Germany,France and Italy are on that list, but we in europe have the Schengen agreements ,so thats not normal,a visa rule for 1 of the EU is equal to all of the EU.strange.
angsta wrote:So just to confirm for the hard of thinking you can now walk into Thailand and get a 30 day visa as opposed to 15 days?
If you are a passport holder of one of these countries JAPAN, GERMANY, UNITED KINGDOM, UNITED STATES, CANADA, FRANCE or ITALY
YES. (Although, to be absolutely technically correct, it is not a Visa, but a Visa Exemption)
If you hold a Passport from elsewhere (except ASEAN & a few other Countries) then you will still get 15 days, as before..
