Protests all over, People are upset an many ( except the poor essan farmers which will soon be joining the rest of the country if they DONT get their rice payments) This is not confined to Bangkok alone, http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews ... kin-regime

Here in Phuket thousands marched thru town.
They Do NOT want Thaksin or his family here

That's fine, there will be an election in a few months and then this vast majority can vote them out.Phuket2006 wrote:Protests all over, People are upset an many ( except the poor essan farmers which will soon be joining the rest of the country if they DONT get their rice payments) This is not confined to Bangkok alone, http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews ... kin-regime

Sweet! I fly in to Bangkok tomorrow, should be a nice relaxing weekend filled with battle cries and tear gas. As long as they dont burn down the cinema, I have tickets to Hobbit 2 tomorrow night at Siam Paragon.
Goodbye America, if anyone asks, say we were shipwrecked. Goodbye to your junk and your old hideola. Have a nice day.

Here's a good summary of the situation
http://www.eastasiaforum.org/2013/12/10 ... rk-choice/
Is the US going to casually accept the destruction of democracy and imposition of an oligarchy?
I haven't managed to catch the essence of the king's speech - did he say anything substantial?

I came, I argued, I'm out
& in the North the huge majority of the people WILL vote for whoever the leader in exile chooses to represent him..
There are more country folk than real townies in Thailand.
Some version of Thaksin will win any election held in February.
Then we will be back to square 1 yet again.
In truth no matter how odious & self seeking Thaksin may be the 'leaders' who oppose him (like Suthep) are even worse.
I cannot see how this can now be easily resolved. Thaksin let a genie out of the bottle with his 'gifts' to the least well off in Thai society.
That these gifts were rather tainted may not even be understood by those who benefited. They can see however that they will get absolutely zero from the opposition.
If (by fraud being the most likely method) the opposition to Thaksin actually won there would be red shirt rioting in the streets of BKK.
February to May is a very quite season for most farmers & additional riot income will be welcome at that time..

A call for a peaceable solution & for Thai people to work together for the good of Thailand was about it Andy..I haven't managed to catch the essence of the king's speech - did he say anything substantial?
His dislike of Mr. T. is rather well known though & it was a speech heavy on platitudes & rather light on actual direction & certainly no hint of a solution to the problems....
I imagine that is rather because, like it or not, Mr. T's supporters actually have the legal position right behind them..
There again so they did when he got illegally thrown out of power while away from home...
& you certainly will not get any comment on the subject from me KiR, although rl66 certainly has the start of an interesting concept there..

Yingluck wants to hold power till Feb. That way her government can raise the money from the rice scheme and pay the Essan rice growers ( since they have NOT been paid yet)
IF she doesn't, they might not vote her back in.
Add in the potential of Hun Sen "helping his good friend" we have the makings of some interesting times ahead.
KIR; i resent ur constant bickering about the old man, Whatever you many think, 60 ++ million Thais adore him.

Agreed, it's a total stalemate. As much as I detest the thieving Shinawatra dynasty and the undemocratic rule by proxy, ignoring the results of the ballot box is as undemocratic as it gets. Yunglick ( good one Vlad ) keeps calling Suthep's bluff so he has to go one step further each time, to the extent that they can only end up with some sort of government handpicked by an unelected group - very democratic of the DemocratsRIH wrote:& in the North the huge majority of the people WILL vote for whoever the leader in exile chooses to represent him..

Personality wise I preferred Thailand being run by a geordie lad from Wallsend, at least I could understand what he was saying. Pity he couldn't address the systemic institutional corruption, but then nobody can and therein lies the problem imho.
